With apologies to Margaret Houlihan!

Who is Ms Houlihan? She has avoided my radar - so far.

Ah! Found her!

Your memory is far sharper than mine! Great series - enjoyed it immensely. I kinda wondered why the title of the snap came to mind so rapidly; just shows you how we are shaped even by forgotten experiences.

As an aside: how I wish models were still available to me today; life would be full of very different photographic things. Oh well, we muddle along now with what arrives, and feel grateful for what once was there and taken so bloody much for granted. ;-)

Holes that bring employment; politically correct holes.

It’s a sort of oblique reference to local employment rules, where councils and unions ensure that at least five different departments have to be involved in resolving any minor issue in the public space.

There was a wonderful cartoon that I can’t trace, which showed a deep hole in the street with a poor guy called Jim digging away inside it, with several guys in business suits standing at the edge looking in. The copy reads: this is going over budget: let’s fire Jim.

Thanks for the comment about the snap!

I must check to see if it’s still out on the street and become home to another colony of cats or rats.

Hard to believe things can come to that in the “first” world.

Just the right touch with the grain to set the mood mysterious.

It was actually pushing boundaries to get the two shots. Trying to get the electronic bits large enough to be noticed, with what amounts to a wide angle (being posed as a normal by the phone people), meant that getting closer would have made the verticals look insane, even by Daidochrome standards! The way I had to do it was to shoot, knowing I had to post-correct the verticals as much as I could, but still leave enough image on the sides to crop and give some sense of location. That’s one of the reasons I still hanker for a longer lens on the iPhone: could have shot from further away, reducing the apparent vertical madness, and just done some tighter cropping within the less violently corrected image. Oh well, once my existing deal with the cellphone company is completed (which I had imagined it was), in April I think, then time to think once more of upgrading the iPhone. Oh to have been born rich! ;-)

Thank you; I keep feeling the shot's taken from a high level, but it's actually ground floor. Odd, that.

Another one bites the dust.

From my new Signage series, which kinda reflects on the observation that public signs tend to be more about bad news than good.
