Nine years on a consumer hardware platform strikes me as a fairly good run. 

Yes plus for amateurs, consumers, those not serious about the tools (be it a computer, or a camera system for those of us that are photographers), it's still a fairly good, long run.

By the way, what makes you want to upgrade the operating system to MacOS 13?  I certainly haven't seen anything in that release that attracts me either as a photographer or as an end-user of the (many other) applications for which I used Apple platforms as my principal client computers.

There are aspects of the GPU (print dialogs, the System Settings) I can't stand; just awful. But those of us who expect regular and continuing OS support in terms of security, those of us on the web etc, eventually it has to happen. If you care about security.

Eh?  I'm running the entire Adobe suite, including Lightroom and Photoshop, on MacOS 12—as well as several other current photographic post-processing applications.

Yes, eventually.  However, Apple has been fairly good about providing security patches for all supported revs of MacOS—typically the three most recent versions.  MacOS 12 will probably be supported for another couple of years before it is formally end-of-lifed.

Yes and if I didn't spend a good portion of my days, testing pre-release software for a number of companies, I'd roll back to MacOS 12. Ventura is kind of a mess, more for some than others. On the Adobe UtoU forums, a number (about 20ish) are seeing crashing when printing with Lightroom Classic. But it is fine for me. Which makes tracking this down and fixing it really difficult. MacOS 12 is fine for users who roll back. So it may be an OS or print driver issue, who (yet) knows. If you don't just have to be on Ventura, my advise is, wait.

OK, one last time. I am running Catalina. I cannot upgrade easily to a higher OS. Easily, I said, but, not worth my time and effort, especially since, as I was informed today, I will not be able to load anything beyond Monterrey on this computer, ever, so, really, why bother, since the computer will be ineffective in a year or two. I've been here, done it. You may be cruising fine right now with the old Trashcan, but, think of it as having cancer and it only has so long to live. I'm fine, it works great, I get plenty done as it is, but, shopping for a new one. No rush.
