Hi folks, to begin with, I am a computer geek and know a lot about Windows, Linux, and even some Mac. I write C/C++ compilers professionally. All that just to say, I have finally met my match ;-P. Long story short is that I have 2 Epson 7800, one converted to Piezo, and neither would talk to my Win10 PC currently.
The long story is that the Piezo 7800 WAS working on the same PC, and I just got another 7800 to print colors (my 7900 recently died....) and somehow something broke. I have downloaded the latest compatible driver from epson.com
The best I can tell is that Win10 refuses to install the Epson driver over the generic Local Print Queue (from Events tab in the printer Properties under Device Manager)

Somehow it outranks the OEM drivers
Things I have tried
- reboot in test mode to disable unsigned driver check
- change group policy or some such to treat all drivers equally
- reboot multiple times
I have an ancient XP box for scanning, and I have verified that both printers do work fine under the XP box.
Any help is appreciated. My next step is to reinstall Win10, but I need to back up my files first, as I had installed Windows Insider Preview and I can't just reset the PC and keep my files.
Anyway, appreciate any comments.
