You wouldn’t believe it: the political stench has drifted right across to the Mediterranean and infected other lands at the far end. Staying in power sure beats losing power and thus finally sitting in court, waiting for a verdict.
One thing that the current continuing crisis has put the lie to is that the US "founding fathers" were wise old souls who set up a system that avoided too much power falling into any one person's hands, like a monarch for instance. I mean, the UK still has an actual monarch and he doesn't have much real power at all, so, insofar as that is concerned, the UK managed it better. Also, as in the case of African slaves, native American Indian tribes, and those who suffered in the Jim Crow and Trump's ICE eras, the US constitution is not much of a hook to hang your "freedom" onto. That is, there are a lot of loopholes, aren't there. Now, it could very well be that in time these wrongs will be rectified in some court judgement, which is nice I suppose. That will certainly make for some good photo ops outside the courtroom.
