I must admit, I give a bit of credit to Trump on how he has maneuvered, post-shooting.

Although he has somewhat gone back to his usual comments/rants, immediately after and for the next few days, he appeared quite Presidential, asking for unity rather than trying to divide.

And although unplanned the, now iconic, photo of him immediately after, while still on stage, raising his fist in defiance, blood streaming from his ear, with the American flag in the background. Regardless of the person, great photo.

True enough.

JD Vance made some comments about bad marriages https://www.vice.com/en/article/93abve/jd-vance-suggests-people-in-violent-marriages-shouldnt-get-divorced. Did he really say that. Does he really believe it. Are there people who do.

He is on record saying those things. Is it not okay to point them out and disagree with them?

That's pretty rich coming from a guy who called Biden is a pedophile. (Correction added by RR 2024-07-22)

Anyway, what are you worried about, Trump is ahead in the polls. You'll be fine.

Think about the D part in the acronym.
In your case, that belief only sounds reasonable when someone here defies critical thinking and ignores facts and data!

You can point out the facts but in this case: It is impossible to puncture the unreality bubble surrounding a fact denier. We can only attempt to sway those with open minds to facts.

Here's an interesting discussion from NPR's Fresh Air about the AR-15 (type) rifle from the point of view of fetish object and cultural symbol, https://www.npr.org/2024/07/15/1197972689/ar-15-todd-frankel. The episode was prompted by the fact that a similar such weapon was used in Trump's assassination attempt, as with many other shootings, but the episode is not about that event.

The US court system can be very weird. Here's the latest in Patrick Boyle's youtube videos about finance in which he discusses a recent bizarre (to me) ruling about stock market "pump and dump" schemes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqWHiMBBNGM. I had previously assumed that such things were illegal but at least one judge doesn't think so. Boyle is very entertaining, a good thing too because obscure financial regulations can be a pretty dry topic.

Why should we have to go to comedians like John Oliver to find out what's true and what is BS when it comes to "migrant crime", https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jn2pVCHUOU&t=622s?

On a related topic, I saw a couple of youtube clips of MAGA-nitwits making racist remarks about JD Vance's wife and also about Kamala Harris. And no, I will not supply links to that crap.

Another good source of entertaining financial writing is Matt Levine at Bloomberg. He does a free, (nearly) daily email. He's discussed "pump and dump" on several occasions and wrote about this particular case on 21st March.

Thanks. A lifetime ago I worked on the IT side of an investment bank's bond trading department. I retain an interest but don't follow too closely anymore. I'll look at Matt Levine's commentary. Cory Doctorow's fiction writing on these themes are fun too.

Maybe not. It's going to be difficult to get those huge feet out of his mouth:

Maybe not. It's going to be difficult to get those huge feet out of his mouth:

Trump "I love Christians" speech was so lame. Is it possible to appear more phoney?

I thought it was just internet BS but it turns out that Vance really did criticize people (or maybe only women) who did not have children. Where does that nonsense come from?

At first I thought it was just another social media exaggeration but I'm now seeing open talk about tracking pregnant women, https://www.politico.com/news/2022/07/18/google-data-states-track-abortions-00045906. I'm gob-smacked. This is happening in the "land of the free"? One of the propagandized reasons for US troops being sent to Iraq and Afghanistan was to help free girls and women there, they should have been sending them to Texas and Georgia instead. I mean, come on, it's 2024 already. If people insist on voting for politicians who propose to do such things, it's really difficult to know what to say.

Yes! Holding a book, he's never read (while Mein Kampf sits on his nightstand).
But the worst was Trump saying (again):
"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. "You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians." "I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
You don't have to vote, he's going to fix that messiness.  :'(

Cognitive Decline? Trump Makes Major Slipup in Attacking Ilhan Omar
Representative Ilhan Omar says she has no idea what Donald Trump was talking about.
July 29, 2024
At a Minnesota rally Saturday, Trump confused Representative Ilhan Omar for another Muslim woman of Congress, Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib.

We have. TDS = Trump's Delusional Supporters.

Now, go sit back down at the kiddie table and let the adults have some time to talk without having you interrupting them to whine.
