De Santis has bowed out of the race. It's as if he thought he was still in it. Despite all the insults flying back and forth between Ron and Don, De Santis has come out backing Trump. Okay, seems heartfelt to me. Maybe Ron can now spend his time criticizing Haley, sidle up to Don that way, maybe get the VP nod, lick, lick, lick. The Don and Ron ticket, has there been a more obnoxious duo running together before. (Maybe Nixon and the actually crooked Agnew?) From what I can tell of Don's character, I doubt he will want anyone with any real appeal or competence, no way can he stand being upstaged. I'm rooting for Kari Lake. If it's going to be a shit show, may as well lean in.

SpaceX, Mars, the Moon and all that. This video is part 1 of 2 parts, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAEYtaB3R7Y.

But you only need to watch Part 1 to appreciate this article, https://www.space.com/spacex-hires-nasa-human-spaceflight-chief-kathy-lueders.

Regarding De Santis ending his campaign and endorsing Trump.

I suppose it occurs up here in Canada also, but perhaps I don't realize it as much because it is not as blatant as in the U.S., but I just don't understand how the public has absolutely any faith in politicians anymore, when one minute they are attacking another candidate and assuring the constituents that candidate is the worst person on the planet, and the next, they warmly embrace them, praise them and, over the top, a**kiss, in attempts to join their team. Is there no integrity anymore??? (Ya, I know the answer, but it still shocks me when I see it)

Well, yeah. Shouldn't it work that one person says, 'This is how I think we should do things, and this is why I think my opponents' ideas as wrong'. Then the other candidates take their turn. Then the party decides which way they want to go. It's as if standards of discussion are so low now that people think that's what a debate is, howling insults at each other.

Is it all TV's fault or was it always like this? I just don't know. Seems like all that matters is the show now. Do people think that if a politician fires off a zinger then it means they'll be a good leader? Why would anyone think that.

Desantis is a putz. A bad haircut. He didn't have to endorse Trump the other night; he could have waited; it was a FU to Haley. Then he says he promised to support the nominee, but Trump isn't yet the nominee. Then when he did endorse Trump, after all the crappy things Trump said about him, Trump rewarded him for the only thing he cares about, loyalty for bending the knee. At least Christy didn't do this. I'm not a fan, but he at least got some moral high ground.

I admit I have mixed feelings over, and some mistrust of, Christie.

He was so anti-Trump leading up to the '16 election, then kissed his butte, big time, when he won (he gave the excuse that he thought he "could work with him"). Recently, he's been anti-Trump again. I'm suspicious the whole thing has just been a series of (poorly) calculated political moves, no more, no less.

Also have this lingering suspicion in the back of my mind that he was approached this time around by a group of heavy-weight anti-Trumpers and asked (compensated for) to be the attack dog. And he figured "Ain't going to win, nothing else to do and what have I got to lose cause he already hates me anyway?".

Because no one has landed there before to check if it is flat?  ;)

It just gets crazier....and crazier.

Trump is now demanding the GOP back out of the border agreement, which recently seemed to have a wisp of a chance of both parties agreeing to, so he can use the failed border situation to attack Biden during the election battle royal. And sadly, there are actually some Republicans who appear to be bending over (again) to his request. Has no-one any shame?? Of course, I ask that, after watching the absolute shameful Tim Scott, who apparently will publicly espouse his love of Trump at the drop of a hat.

There are only a few who are not crazy, only a few.

Since this is, first and foremost a site on photography (expect for those who poop on carpets):

Of course Donald Trump shared a botched AI 'photo' of himself

Much has been made of the shortcomings of generative AI models, and their ability (or lack thereof) to create photorealistic images. As we well know by now, generative models particularly struggle with hands. Although clearly nobody has told Donald Trump. The potential Republican nominee has shared an image of himself praying in church (because of course he has) which bears all the hallmarks of an AI-generated image: too much soft focus, overly-cinematic lighting, and an anatomically incorrect number of digits.

In case you're interested (and there's no reason you should be) a friend uncovered an explanation.

So there you go. OTOH, some don't believe that the moon exists at all, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8HZFab9Ulc.

There's no shortage of craziness, not in politics and not in real life.

This is not exactly news anymore but this hearing must showcase some of the lamest politicians that have ever lived, https://petapixel.com/2024/01/31/senate-child-safety-hearing-seems-to-be-about-everything-but-child-safety/. The questioning by Hawley of the guy from Singapore is particularly embarrassing. I'd make a comment about Lindsey Graham's statements but there hardly seems to be any point. Be nice if the US would elect some adults for a change next election.

I gather from the headlines that Trump is getting attention because he's using campaign contributions to pay his personal legal bills. There can't possibly be anyone who is surprised by this.
