Yeah.  Great job.

Inflation surges 9.1% in June, most since November 1981
U.S. consumer prices in June accelerated at the fastest annual pace since November 1981.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Price Index (CPI) reflected a year-over-year increase of 9.1% last month, up from the prior 40-year high of 8.6% in May. Economists were expecting June's reading to show an 8.8% increase, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

...Now you should know that these hearings are about much more than Trump. They're about a whole roster of people some good, some bad, and some just plain nuts spinning around in Trump's orbit. Some inside the White House and many outside of the White House. You should know this as a concerned citizen, but you're not concerned... so you don't know. You've said with regard to the hearings you've watched "very little".

Because, as he claims, it's a "waste of time"?  No.  Alan obviously has considerable time on his hands.

But does he have enough time to actually inform himself about this unprecedented threat to his country's democratic system?

No.

He'd rather remain ignorant.  IMHO because he's a closed-minded rightist, deathly afraid of learning something that goes against his entrenched beliefs.

Alan, how else can you explain your "eyes wide shut" attitude?

Thank you for this. Yes, I followed the Brad Raffensperger saga ‘live’ and followed some of the latest hearings on QAnon and the Oath Keepers.

Van Tatenhove’s testimony as to the organisation being a ‘violent militia’  and his fear he that former President Donald Trump may incite even more extreme violence if he runs again in 2024 may be beginning to resonate with the public. NYT reports a poll showing that 50% of the GOP electorate would not wish Trump to be the Republican nominee in 2024.

Two new candidates would hopefully be a good start to putting this sordid period behind us.

Across the pond,  Boris Johnson, the British PM, has finally ‘been hoisted by his own petard’ and unceremoniously dumped out of office by his own party. It took almost 60 resignations (actually 59, one reconsidered at the very last minute) - a figure not seen since the early 1900’s.

As one commentator wrote, ‘he ruled with impunity’ - not so dissimilar to the Big Orange One.
Hope and pray for a similar ending.

The smoking gun evidence that a Georgia grand jury is currently considering, along with other evidence, is the recording of his threatening Georgia state officials and attempt at coercing them to commit election fraud among other potential crimes. There is a mountain of other evidence being collected from and about other major players in the fraudulent attempts to overturn the election and the incitement of an insurrection which may or may not implicate him in additional criminal activities or conspiracy to commit crimes.

It looks like July will show a meaningful reduction of the inflation rate, and many companies, incl. even Google and Tesla are slowing down the hiring. Hopefully, that will put brakes on Fed's interest rate hikes.

Maybe it will go down. Currently, the inflation rate is more than double what experts calculated for June.  It was suppose to go up .2% in June from 8.6% to 8.8% but went up .5% to to 9.1%.  They keep getting it wrong. It will be a recession that forces the reduction.  Prices or at least the rate of increase goes down in a recession because more people are buying less.  Lower demand forces companies to lower prices.  Then companies lay off people no longer required since they're making fewer quantities of products.  Musk says he needs to reduce his workforce 10%, so it's not just slowing down hiring.  Of course, this recession has been put off for years.  It's just catching up finally as the Fed shuts down the punch bowl.

Whether the FED gets nervous again as they did in 2018 and starts lowering rates to counter a recession is to be seen. That could re-ignite inflation. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

From a political standpoint, lower rates of inflation and price increases should be good for Democrats. Biden will take credit. However, the inflation rates and prices are so high, that people might not care at this point, especially if layoffs start.  Even if inflation slows, it could hit double-digit 10% right before the election, not a bright picture for the administration.  If the Democrats pass another spending plan as Manchin is negotiating with Leader Schumer, that will just push inflation higher again.  But that won’t be seen until after the election.  They’re trying to buy votes again with more handouts.  Even some Democrat states like California are getting into the act of sending checks to residents.  Even my Democrat-controlled state of New Jersey is trying to pass legislation to send checks out to residents to offset high gasoline prices.  They ought to send checks out to help offset my wife's shopping at the mall.

Peter, if Trump or other people broke election laws then the Attorney General of the US and/or the Attorneys General of the various states where they were broken should indict and try the culprits including Donald Trump if there's sufficient evidence.  However, the hearings in Washington now are being run by Democrats who are using them to gain political traction before an election.

None of the normal defendants' rights are being protected such as vigorous cross-examination of prosecution witnesses and calling defense witnesses to counter Democrat charges.  If you want to watch a political show trial, go right ahead. I'll admit it can be entertaining especially if you already made up your mind about Trump.  I'll wait for the real indictments before spending time on it.

You've been told this many times: there are no defendants.  This is not a trial, this is a hearing.

You simply refuse to listen.  Because prejudice.

it's being treated as a trial. People are finding him guilty based on one sided testimony at this hearing which doesnot include normal cross-examination and allowing defendants to produce witnesses.

The way to have a fair hearing is to allow these to happen. But the Democrats won't allow it because they're trying to prove Trump guilty. That's why the hearing is a show trial

Hi Alan,

The January 6 hearings are like a "Grand Jury probe." If Trump goes to trial, his defense will conduct a stern cross-examination.

Peter. Grand Juries are held in secret so people aren't publicly dragged through the mud with innuendo and speculation. This is a political show trial put on by Democrats to "get" Trump and embarrass Republicans similar to the Russian collusion and two impeachments by the Democrats. They're doing it to help themselves in upcoming midterm elections in November.

If there is evidence of criminality, let the Attorney General do his job and indict the perpetrators and have a trial.

By the way, if Democratocally controlled Congress wanted, they can do the entire hearings in secret behind closed doors as some of the depositions have been taken that way. Similar to a grand jury. That wouldn't work politically for Democrats. They want to use the hearings as a way to hurt Republicans.

So they pick and choose which evidence will be revealed publicly and which witnesses will be called publicly. Then they don't allow appropriate cross-examination of the witnesses so only the Democrat side of the story is told. This is all politics.
