So I'm assuming the disparity your referencing is causing higher prices in the meat industry.

Summer's point is that the higher prices are caused by inflation and that the president shouldn't punish the industry with attempted anti-competitive lawsuits against them as he's doing.  It's only going to make things worse. The president is also claiming, falsely, similar conspiracies in the oil industry. 

The government always plays this game regardless of who's president.  When prices go up because of the deficit spending and the Fed printing, they try to blame industry and labor for the inflation so the public doesn't blame them.     

Despite what you'd like to believe, higher prices are not "caused by inflation".  The current inflation spike has very little to do with Biden, the Fed or somebody printing money.  It's a complex stew of covid-caused supply chain disruption, factory closings, pent-up consumer demand, extreme weather and global lockdowns.

It's true that the current inflation spike is caused by many factors as you listed. However, the diabolical and ongoing inflation (not only the occasional spikes, but the general long-term inflation trend) is caused intentionally or by lack of foresight by the governments. A very good discussion and explanation of the inflation causes and consequences can be seen in the recent interview between Dave Lee and Jeff Booth, author of the Price of Tomorrow and founder of BuildDirect.

We'll have to agree to disagree.   The general rising of prices is caused by an expansion of the money supply compounded by a decrease in the production of goods and services.  So we have more money chasing less stuff which bids up the price of most things. 

The Fed has acknowledged that by admitting inflation is not temporary which had been their claim previously.  Because of it, they moved up tapering their current $120 billion a month printing to end by March with an increase in interest rates to follow.  They acknowledge they're doing this because rising prices are getting out of hand due to their current printing and interest policies. 

As Les said, the things you mentioned do aggravate the problem.  But those are passing circumstances.  Past Fed policies will keep prices high even after those circumstances pass.  The problem we're facing is whether the Fed will be able to actually taper and increase interest rates.  In 2018, when the Fed Chairman raised interest rates, we started to go into a recession.  He had to reduce rates because of it.  It's worse now so I wouldn't expect anything better.  Even if it works, if Congress keeps up with deficit spending, the Fed will have to print anyway to cover those expenditures.  That will keep inflation and higher prices going even higher. If the Fed continues to print, inflation will push us into a recession anyway.  It's really a mess.  We're damned if we do and damned if we don't.

I keep telling you, sell off some of those military bases, especially the ones near beachfront. Resort operators will snatch those up. Use the cash to pay down the debt, problem solved. And you'll be able to lay off some military staff, save some more there.

Or you know what else? Sell off all those National Parks. They're just sitting there. Turn them into condos and executive homes, make a killing.

As seen over hundreds of pages here, in (so sad, a photography web site/forum), ingorance is very difficult to cure. On topics well within the confines of photogarphy! I have collected many examples from one poster here, but providing this proof of concept isn't a cure for one person's ignorance on the subject of photography and imaging. Add politics? Nothing gets through that unreality bubble, no cure. Sorry to disagree with Mr. Stewart this time.

Yes it was and pretending that a reply has some connection to what someone has written is a frequently used diversionary tactic employed to repeat the same things you've seen a thousand times before. It's just a setup to trap someone into a circular argument that never addresses what you originally posted, but simply repeats well worn talking points on a favorite topic.

The more frustrated you become with this tactic, the more enjoyment derived by the other party to it.

My responses are the same because he gave the wrong reasons for higher prices in the general economy caused by inflation.  The 15% increase in what I just paid for Nathans hot dogs was not due to some dispute in the food industry any more than the 33% increase my barber raised his prices have to do with them either.
