In any case, the original point was who should decide the shape of the election district.  If as some have argued here that an independent group of people do it, that isn't "democratic".  Those officials weren't elected.  It's more democratic to allow each state's legislature to decide as is being done currently.  They are the people who were elected by their state's residents.

I have suggested that the voting district maps should have to be approved by 2/3 of the state legislators/senators. Then we'd get reasonable balanced maps.

Unfortunately, you might never get an agreement to meet the 2/3rds.  Then what do you do?  The state won't be able to have election districts and they'll lose their votes in Congress and for electing the President. Better at 50+% so you can get it done.

Plus, you'd have to get legislatures in 50 states to change their own laws.  What party, either republican or democratic, that is currently in charge of their state legislature will change their own laws and weaken their power and let the other party decide these things?   Just look how Democrats want to do away with the filibuster rule requiring 60 votes on some legislation to give more time for discussion and compromise.  Since they only have 50 votes plus one for the VP, they can't overcome the filibuster rule for a lot of legislation.  Why do you think Democrats, or Republicans for that matter, in state legislatures, would be any different and want to eliminate simple 51% majorities and go to supermajorities requiring 2/3 vote?

The Arizona "stop the steal" sh*t show just gets stupider and stupider, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dHTaDjni6M.

I've joked about it before but maybe the U.N. should send observers to US elections. It must be hugely embarrassing to have this nonsense going on. Are there not any adults in the room?

What is even more stupid are the latest Biden's lies and ignorance. He is indeed national embarassment.

In his latest speech, he singled out Mary Barra, an equally incompetent boss of GM, and pronounced her a leader of green EV revolution. The same person under whose leadership GM developed the infamous and now cancelled Bolt, and making desparate stupid deals with Nikola and Lordstown Motors.

It's sad to see that Barra will lead GM to bankruptcy and oblivion and Biden is driving half of the democratic voters to Trump.

Yeh I find it really ironic that the US touts itself as the model democratic country...I guess if they say it enough times, they might start believing themselves. These last few years just started to expose the cracks.

Biden and Democrats owe their allegiance to to the auto unions because unions support them. .   Biden in pushing his infrastructure bill said it was going to bring millions of high paying jobs to UNION workers.   Tesla isn't unionized. Case closed.

Meanwhile his ever descending approval rating is now lower than Trump's in some polls like Quinnipiac which had him at 36%. What's going to count next year during the midterm elections is what's happening with the economy especially inflation.   If prices are still going up, Democrats will lose the house and probably the Senate.

You'r arguments support many Republicans who believe elections are crooked.

Well, there are a lot of them who follow Trump.  But long before he ran for president, many people have been concerned with voting fraud.  That's why every state has had laws regarding ID's, electioneering near the polls, purging records, and other methods to reduce this crime.

Well, first Mary Barra said that by 2035 GM will catch up and overtake Tesla, and then Biden said Mary Barra is a leader in the green EV revolution.
Statements like that would be a great material for the Radio Yerevan jokes.

That doesn't say much for GM if Barra thinks it will take until 2035 to catch up.  Is she kidding? Not sure who Yerevan is?

If GM could catch up with Tesla by 2035 that would be quite an accomplishment. However, due to a number of reasons that is virtually impossible, and with that statement she is a laughing stock with all automotive  reporters.
Between 1996 and 1999, GM was in excellent position with EV1, the first ever mass-produced electric vehicle. EV1. The cars were not bad, but GM killed that model and bought back all EV1s from their customers.
A few months ago GM stopped production of the Chevy Bolt EV after a number of battery fires prompted a massive fiasco / recall that has already cost the company nearly $2 billion. Right now, GM doesn't have any electric cars. Out of desperation, they entered into questionable joint ventures with Nikola and Lordstown Motors. Both ventures were cancelled this year. Now, they are pinning their hopes on all electric Cadillac Lyric and Hummer which should be released in late 2022. However, these cars will be expensive and produced in relatively small quantities, so they won't make a dent in paying off over $100B GM's debt. Big talk, but no realistic chance for them to succeed and grow. By the way, GM's market share in the last 50 years shrunk from 54% to 16% (if I remember those numbers correctly).  If they won't go bankrupt, they may survive, but will emerge as a much smaller player.

For more information, just search youtube or Google for "GM bankruptcy". Here is one youtuber's report about GM's looming bankruptcy.

GM has so much debt because the Obama Administration after the 2008 financial crisis bailed them out because it was the only way to save the Auto Workers Union retirement plan that would have gone broke if GM went bankrupt. So the American taxpayer gave them tens of billions of dollars to save the union workers.

So GM kept going like a zombie Corporation being bailed out with all these billions of dollars and not straightening out the way they ran their corporation hurting themselves in the future. So here we are now. The future has arrived. So now will Obama vice president President Biden bail them out again? The whole thing is a shame. They should have allowed them to go bankrupt in 2008 and gone through reorganization and maybe came out a small company just like what Kodak did.  The whole thing is an incestuous relationship.  All at taxpayer expense.

That would make perfect sense if you suspend all rational thought. And as we've seen here over and over again, and in the recent thread about display calibration** where you poked your head in then thankfully ran away, all of must do so: suspend all rational thought.

Of course, the biased press was more falsely worried about Tump's kids doing real estate deals and ignoring the real danger from Biden's kid.  Maybe this is why GM needs until 2035 to really start competing against Tesla.

How Hunter Biden’s Firm Helped Secure Cobalt for the Chinese
The president’s son was part owner of a venture involved in the $3.8 billion purchase by a Chinese conglomerate of one of the world’s largest cobalt deposits. The metal is a key ingredient in batteries for electric vehicles.

...But BHR’s role in the Chinese mine purchase was not a major focus. It has taken on new relevance because the Biden administration warned this year that China might use its growing dominance of cobalt to disrupt America’s retooling of its auto industry to make electric vehicles. The metal is among several key ingredients in electric car batteries.

When asked if the president had been made aware of his son’s connection to the sale, a White House spokesman said, “No.”
