What was historically done was that governments accumulated a nest egg in good times so that they can help people in bad times. You seem to be suggesting to tighten belts during bad times. I'm sure that won't bother Mitch or Elon, they'll be fine, but that "pain" that you want to impose will be felt most by those who are already suffering and who have the least amount of influence. Do you really think lowering Uber drivers' salaries will cause the economy to bounce back? Is that really where the problem lies?
It's a weird concept that some people seem to have, that it's necessary to suffer now and then, sounds like a very Puritan-type concept to me. Maybe we should let go of some old ideas.
Americs's broke. There are no good times any more. Those days ended long ago. We're thirty trillion in debt. Taxes pay for only 45% of our budget. We're printing the rest. That's creating artificial bubbles that will pop as real estate did in 2008.
Why is the government giving out stimulus to people like me who haven;t seen any reduction in earnings? Why are they giving so much out to others, there's no incentive to return to work? The economy is in a breakout mode and no additional printing or stimulus needs to be done. For the unemployed, it would cost less than $100 billion to help them out for six months. We don't need to spend $4 T more as is being proposed. Inflation pricing is starting to get out of control.
PS: I don't know anything about Uber drivers salaries. That's not my business nor the government's.
