Worldometer reported 4100 deaths today, bringing the total to just under 370,000. The US was at 300,000 deaths on Dec 10.

Some web site I looked up shows the current US population at 331 million, so roughly 1 in 900 have died. Pretty soon, everyone will personally know someone who died.

Well, you got to be pretty stupid if you're a Canadian and rioting about an American election.   :o

I'll agree with that.

I couldn't agree more, we've got here our fair share of idiots. But in hindsight, it was safer than rioting about Canadian election.

But she was right about the deplorables.
That thinking is why half the country supported Trump, a populist and not a Republican, and still did after all the negative press over five years.  The elites in New York and California who run the media and look down at "flyover" country.  If they continue to act that way, and they will, the government could switch over again in 2022, at least the House, maybe the Senate too.  If Biden is smart, and he is, he'll reach out to old-time Democratic "deplorables" who went to Trump and try to show he's on their side.

4,100 dead in one day is quite terrifying. Significantly worse than the 911 toll. Actually, there were quite a few days with s number of dead higher than on 911.
No doubt, the Thanksgiving holidays and end-of-year Trump rallies contributed to the 4,100 deaths. Now, those numbers will rise even more as a consequence of Christmas travel and the latest crowd gatherings in Washington.

Your post responded to my post about Hillary.  So that was my counter to yours.  Regarding the rest of your post, read my post #5331 about how democrats screamed how republicans stole elections from them and actually rejected the Republican electors from Ohio.  It seems like both sides "wuz robbed".   Did you complain when democrats did this?

I need to go to the dentist again and get my car repaired.  So I'm dropping my car off outside the repair shop and will sign the form there.  hen use alcohol inside the car when I pick it up.  But it's still riskier now although the survival rate is much better than it was in the spring.  The dentist is another matter.  My wife has a checkup next week with a doctor.  I wanted to put it off until I got the shot which should be soon.  I notice democrat VP Harris and her husband got the shots already jumping the line and even though it was Trump's vaccine.  "Warp Speed" seems to be working for them.  Politicians are such hypocrites and phonies.

How the Capitol looked when BLM protesters were in town.

Wow.  Rather different aspect than today, when the police were noticeably lenient and The National Guard was noticeably absent.

Perhaps <insert usual suspects here> can explain this.

"Warp speed" only seems to be working in Washington for politicians and husbands of politicians.  :)  Here in New Jersey, someone's gumming up the speed.  I did register for the vaccine though with my state. So today I got this email from them. At least they got my registration even if they haven't gotten the vaccine. Maybe Biden will warp speed it up a little better.  The least they should have done while I'm waiting was to send me a mask.

Yes, I read that Trump was afraid to take the vaccine. So are you saying the Kamala Harris took the vaccine shot which Trump didn't use? Hopefully, he didn't touch it.

I’m not part of the < usual suspects > but did watch most of the insurrection on Sky/Fox/CNN. It was alleged by one of the commentators that a request was made for the National Guard to reinforce the police presence but the request had been turned down by the Ministry of Defence.

Now, I’ve no way of verifying that claim but I’m confident that, if true, we’ll hear a lot more in the days ahead.

It does, sadly, have more than just a ring of truth about it. Mark Espers, the previous Sec of Defence, was unceremoniously *terminated* by Trump, shortly after the Election, and replaced by one Christopher C. Miller.

One, if not the main reason, Espers fell out with Trump was Espers refusal to call up the National Guard during the BLM protests last summer. It doesn’t take a clairvoyant to see why, this time round, that would play into Trump’s playbook/agenda- particularly with an acquiescent SecOfDefence in situ.

The reporters on the ground, also reporting, that a multitude of *protesters* leaving the scene , were heard to be repeating  “... this is only just the beginning”.

I’ve always considered the VP to be an obsequious *yes* man. But both he and Mitch McConnell stood their ground and broke with the President. So there’s a sign that the future may not be so bleak for the GOP.

Also hearing of White House resignations, with more expected to follow and Twitter suspending Trumps account (for 12 hours) ostensibly for ‘inciting violence’, with Facebook following with a 24 hour ban.

Calls to remove Trump by invoking the 25th amendment, tempting as it may be, may be unwise as it’ll fuel more mob rampaging and add to his 'Martyr' persona.

You tried that ploy before and no one took the bait. I’m surprised you tried it again so soon.

Hopefully, but I can't help observing that McConnell's conversion to bipartisan politics coincided with his loss  of the Senate - not so evident when he was blocking Obama's SC nominee or railroading through Trump's.

Trump's response to the day's events

"These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!"

I guess it was a Kodak moment.

We all knew he would be consistent with his words. He has been consistently asinine, stupid, egocentric, and liar, for the last 4 years. Thankfully, he is on the way out.

What the entire world has seen on TV is one of the most shameful events of my generation (I am 54), and I hope the responsible parties are brought to justice.

Politicians, playing to the Boss. Whatever has gone before is done. You'll need them if there's any hope of marginalising the extreme right moving forward.

One Zeke Miller, AP reporter, who has known Pence for 'forever' tweeted "I've never seen Pence as angry as he was today". Also, coming through 'reports we had today that Trump is spreading anarchist rhetoric, was gleeful at today's insurrection, repeatedly blocked the National Guard being deployed, had Rudy Giuliani secretly working to delay Biden's certification, and much more...

Also reports that it was Mike Pence who authorised the deployment of the National Guard ( even more bizarre as the VP doesn't figure in the Chain of Command) but seeing as Trump banned Pence's Chief of Staff from entering thew WH, speculating that Pence took matters into his own hands.

More to follow ...
