Democracy is about ensuring that 1. the law favors the majority of people and that 2. the law is followed. There is endless room for discussion within the framework of these 2 principles.

Here it's all too clear that the purpose of the complaining is to put an end to these principles. In other words to put in place a system in which you'll only be allowed to complain if you complain against those who disagree with the great leader Trump.

It's called a dictatorship.

The fact that Trump claims he is a victim doesn't change anything to what is happening.

It's a known historical facts that democracies are weak to well equipped demagogues who don't respect the spirit of democracy nor the law and put in place an elaborate plan to ensure that opposition is either not allowed to act (that includes the press) or that it's actions are not followed by the effects they should legally have.

And history has also showed that the citizens supporting these leaders are as guilty as the leaders themselves. That would include you.

Cheers,
Bernard

Dictatorship?  He'll be gone Jan 20th. You really need to calm down.

He's wasting his breath and looking foolish.  Nothing's going to change. But that's allowed in a democracy.

Foolish wasn’t the first word that popped into my head. Is that really what you think? Trump was acting foolishly?

He's wasting his breath and looking foolish.  Nothing's going to change. But that's allowed in a democracy.

And undermining the very foundation of democracy - attempting to overturn for no valid reason a proven legitimate election.  Because "it's not fair".

I can't see why this isn't grounds to immediately remove him on the grounds that he's criminally unfit for office.

YMMV

But one would expect a better judgment and more dignity from an outgoing president.

Trump wasn't elected because he was a politician but rather a raucous, loudmouth real-estate developer from Queens. Hasn't everyone figured that out yet? :)

Given the past Republican minimizing and dismissal of Trump's efforts to undermine democracy and rule of law, I have little doubt that pressuring and threatening a Secretary of State to find enough votes to overturn an election will be minimized and normalized as well.

Those that have blind faith in an ideology willingly trade blindness for comfort in their faith.

I’m sure it’s just a sign of a strong democracy that the president can attempt to overturn the result of a free election - right, Alan?

You figured it out and yet, you still thought "that is who I want to represent my country at the highest level"?

He tries to elicit fake votes and this is all you can say? Mindless tribalism at its worst. He's your boy so he can get away with anything, is that the thinking. You should examine your moral compass, I find it wanting.

And from what I read, Trump's behaviour is having bad effects on the GOP. Boo hoo. They let the guy in and lip-locked on his back end, now they're surprised that have to eat sh*t? This is the kind of adolescent political drama you expect in a bad undergraduate play, you don't expect it in real life. But the fact that the Democratic party lost to Trump once, and the fact that this past election wasn't a landslide in their favour is not complimentary to them either. There is a lot more wrong here than just one third-rate con man.

And I can barely control my contempt for the people who continued to tolerate him - he was clearly completely unfit for such office.  Only the fact that I'm sure the majority of Trump supporters and apologists are actually decent people stops me from losing all hope for the USA.

Happy 2021.

All these desperate moves by Trump are a strong indication of the fear of lawsuits against him, once he looses the presidential immunity.

I thought Trump looks pretty good in a striped suite.

Last year, Nancy Pelosi said that she wants to put Trump in jail. Is she going to do it now?

Quote
In a closed-door meeting with Democratic leaders on Tuesday, Nancy Pelosi sought to quell the rising calls for the impeachment of President Donald Trump by reportedly telling her colleagues, according to Politico: “I don’t want to see him impeached. I want to see him in prison.”

Yeah.  We're just deplorable.

Stop whining. If you can't understand what makes these actions by Trump deplorable, you should stop lecturing the rest of us about the US Constitution or democratic freedoms. This is not politics as usual. It's not even close. The guy more or less tried to elicit fake votes. He doesn't even have the brains to do this in a smoke-filled back office. Not only is he crooked, but he's stupid as a fencepost too.

You're not deplorable, but supporting Trump is.

It seems all the people who wouldn't take Trump's vaccine are lining up to get it.  Of course, the biased press, still being biased, says nothing about them jumping the line in front of other folks who should get it first.  They're only doing it to encourage others say the press and injectees.  Sure.

Yeah.  We're just deplorable.

Normally, I would say that that is a remarkably astute self-assessment, except that I know you are only saying that so that you can play the victim.

At least as a parting gift he seems to be destroying his party. So it's not all bad.

Some truth to that.  But having a one-party government is terrible.  Having lived in NYC with democrats controlling all the powers of government is worse.  There are no checks and balances.  Some of the worse crime and financial issues are because of one-party governments in states like California, NY, and Illinois.  They're all broke.  Be careful what you wish for.  You may get it.
