I was thinking Trump could get Putin to kidnap Biden and Harris and take them to a secret island.  I'm still working on the rest of it, but I'll definitely work in the derringer belt buckle and Hawkman angles. Maybe even throw in an old washed up college football coach for an extra element of intrigue.

Why would Trump not attempt something like that?

I don't think he is up to the task intellectually.

This can't be taken well in the White House:

If only such warning labels could be applied to the guy trying to get the thread closed down and is in his own room, locked in a bubble of his creation. 🤔

Well, if Russia actually wants the demise of the US they would benefit a lot more by supporting civil unrest than by stealing some information online.

The timing of this attack cannot be a coincidence, it must be related to the elections.

Note that at the same time the Pentagon stopped all cooperation with the Biden team, officially for the holidays although the Biden team denied they agreed. So it’s a lie.

My latest conspiracy theories:
Version 1:
- Putin actually did it but in alignement with Trump
- Trump changes position in a few days, admits Russia did it and calls the state of emergency
- [Bonus points option] He comes up with imaginary evidence linking Biden with the hack
- A limited armed conflict starts and is used as an excuse by Trump to stop the transition to the Biden administration

What he gets from it: a hope that he stays in power
What Putin gets from it: a weaker US

Version 2:
- same as Version 1 but the Russian have actually nothing to do with it, the hack was orchestrated by Trump with fake evidence pointing to Russia
- this is supported by some generals who have been looking an opportunity to do something about the « Russian problem »
- all the rest is identical

Why would Trump not attempt something like that?

Your plot sounds like "From Russia with Love".  But Sean Connery recently died.  Biden takes over on Jan 20th.  Trump can't do anything.  Wars don't stop the clock.

Well, I was cutting him some slack because I haven't seen the movie or read the book in about 50 years, and can't say I remember what happened either. About the only thing I can remember is that Odd Job had a razor brim hat, and he threw it like a frisbee and tried to decapitate James Bond with it, possibly in a garden or maybe a maze. Was the girl wearing a wetsuit or was that Thunderball?

It was my fault. I said Oddjob was in From Russia With Love, and he associated Oddjob with Goldfinger which was correct, and then gave us a fact from Goldfinger.

From Russia With Love had that badass older lady with the poison tipped knife in her shoe. At the end of the book, she gets Bond with it and it's kind of left as a cliffhanger what happens as I recall although it's been many years since I read that one.

Bernard's and Frank's theories are quite plausible, but it could have been also the Cuban operatives trained in the old Soviet Union, although Marco Rubio tries to divert the suspicion to Russian hackers. Following the recent Trump's ban on Cuban rum and cigars, Rubio now demands a prompt US retaliation and increased tariffs on import of Stolichnaya vodka and other premium spirits from Russia.

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, who leads the Senate Intelligence Committee, vowed that the U.S. will retaliate for a massive, ongoing cyberattack that has compromised private companies and government agencies — including the Energy Department’s National Nuclear Security Administration.

On Friday, Rubio tweeted “the methods used to carry out the cyberhack are consistent with Russian cyber operations,” though he stopped short of directly accusing the Russians.

“But it’s crucial we have complete certainty about who is behind this,” Rubio said. “We can’t afford to be wrong on attribution, because America must retaliate, and not just with sanctions.”
