I wonder how the Guardian gets these stories. They are usually pretty unflattering to the US. Not that they are untrue, mind you, just unflattering. I wonder if there is a corresponding US paper that posts unflattering stores about the UK. About the only news of the UK I see is about Brexit and the latest gossip about the royal family. I guess both of us probably have warp views of one another. But I will say that the Christmas decorations on the royal train did look pretty nice. Whoever was responsible for them probably didn't say who gives a fuck about Christmas decorations.
The Guardian's anti-Americanism is mild compared to the Daily Mail, which my wife reads religiously. British newspapers are odd -- I've never really been able to figure out where they're coming from. When I'm in London, I enjoy reading them, for the novelty factor, though I mostly stick with The Telegraph. I'm particularly nonplussed by their attitude toward the Royals, and what they did to Meghan Markle. (That's maybe because I'm an American, and really don't care about any of the Royals, at any level, and basically think that anyone should agree to consider himself/herself a "subject" is bizarre in this modern age.) In any case, I suspect the Daily Mail has a policy of printing the three worst stories about America they can find, on a daily basis; and since the US is a nation of 330 million, there are always such stories to be had. And would be if they were writing about China or India or, for that matter, the EU. I think it may be a superiority complex left over from when sun never set on the British empire. Now that it hardly ever rises on the British empire, the noises from British newspapers seem lame.
