The lefties are inherently violent.

As if not providing fair opportunities to millions of kids in poor families to access health care and good basic education were not an order of magnitude more violent...

On a more serious note, and if I would apply the same metric you guys do, that is an openly racist comment. However, since I believe in free speech, it is ok with me.

Not according to this chart as of Nov. 20, 2020.  In NJ, which is supposed to be very bad, only 12% of hospital beds are currently used for COvid.  Florida 6%. California 7%  NY 4%  Illinois which is one of the higher ones is at 19%.

https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/public-health/number-of-covid-19-hospitalizations-state-by-state-july-15.html

This chart shows the hospitalization rates through last week.  The heavy black line is the total for all age groups. My understanding is that stays are shorter and fewer ICU's are required.  Fewer ventilators required, better procedures and effective antiviral drugs are working to get patients in and out faster. I saw my pulmonologist a couple of weeks ago.  He was on the front line in the hospital he works at and said it was a madhouse in the Spring.  But now he has time to see regular patients like me and is running a normal schedule.

Some states fared better than others. However, this week the situation is much more dire. Especially in US Midwest where the infection count rose twenty times. That sounds like the pandemic is out of control. In Canada, the province of Alberta is not faring much better. The number of ICU occupancies in Calgary and Edmonton was on Friday at 90% and 92% of capacity. The hospitals there have already added more beds, but temporary ICU beds come at the expense of space for patients who need other specialized services, such as coronary care, postoperative recovery, and other areas able to support ventilators and cardiac monitoring.

Quote
After pounding big U.S. cities in the spring, COVID-19 now has engulfed rural and small-town America, seeming to seep into the country’s every nook and cranny. According to Reuters’ interviews with more than a dozen medical care providers and public health officials in the nation’s heartland, many hospitals are severely lacking in beds, equipment and - most critically - clinical staff, including specialists and nurses. COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are spiking nationally. But the Midwest - encompassing a dozen states between Ohio and the Dakotas - has been especially brutalized. Reported case rates are more than double that of any other region in the United States, according to the COVID Tracking Project, a volunteer-run data provider. From mid-June to mid-November, reported cases in the Midwest rose more than twentyfold.

For the week ending November 19, North Dakota reported an average of 1,769 daily new cases per 1 million residents, according to the tracking project. South Dakota recorded nearly 1,500 per million residents, Wisconsin and Nebraska around 1,200, and Kansas nearly 1,000. Even in New York’s worst week in April - with business closed and panic gripping the public - the state never averaged more than 500 new cases per million people. California never topped 253.

Shortages of staff, rather than beds, are the biggest single problem in many hospitals, the health officials said. “Just because you can take a cot and put it in a room doesn’t mean you have the appropriate nursing staff to care for a patient,” said Dr. Anthony Hericks, director of critical care with Avera Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Quote
“AHS is able to increase the amount of hospital spaces available to patients with COVID if we reduce the number of other patients in hospital,” he said. “This situation is serious, and we would like to remind all Albertans that we need their help in reducing the transmission of COVID-19 in the community, which in turn will reduce strain on the health care system.”

As you remember, Judge Brann in Federal District Court in Pennsylvania basically laughed Giuliani out of court on Saturday. Team Trump filed a Motion for Expedited Appeal of that decision to the Third Circuit Court on Appeals on Sunday. Giuliani then filed an Amended Motion for Expedited Appeal on Monday morning because he fucked up the Sunday motion, arguably waiving his right to appeal substantive matters. Giuliani's brief was due at 4:00 pm on Monday. He missed the deadline, filing the brief at 4:19 pm. No word on whether they spell checked the brief this time around. Also no word on whether the Third Circuit Court of Appeals will accept the late-filed brief. The Pennsylvania Secretary of State's brief is due Tuesday at 4:00 pm.

So you may ask what exactly is Team Trump appealing? Well, they are appealing Judge Brann's ruling, not on the merits of the case, but that procedurally Team Trump couldn't file a Second Amended complaint to put back in a bunch of stuff they took out of their original Complaint when they filed their First Amended Complaint when Giulani joined the litigation and the original Trump lawyers bowed out. Essentially, Giuliani is asking the Third Circuit Court of Appeals for a do-over of a do-over. Why? Because they got laughed out of court on the stuff they alleged in First Amended Complaint and they need to argue the stuff that they took out of the original Complaint because otherwise they've got nothing.

In the event the Third Circuit Court of Appeals rules in their favor, they can file the Second Amended Complaint and start all over in front of Judge Brann with what they had before Giuliani joined the circus. Notice that this is not forward motion. In the event the Third Circuit Court of Appeals rules against them, they can appeal to the Supreme Court. In the event the Supreme Court rules in their favor, they can file the Second Amended Complaint and start all over in front of Judge Brann. Notice again that this is not forward motion. In the event the Supreme Court rules against them, they are going to have to file another lawsuit in some other federal district court somewhere. Notice again again that this is not forward motion. Of course, the Supreme Court doesn't have to accept the case, in which event the Third Circuit's ruling against Team Trump would stand. Or the Supreme Court could dither around and neither accept nor deny the opportunity to consider the Third Circuit's ruling, in which event, Team Trump will remain in limbo.

Do you remember when I said that Giuliani arrived in his clown car last Monday to take over the case. This is what I meant by clown car. On Saturday, I referred to Giuliani's lawyering skills as half-ass. They have gone down hill, and are now, as Chris Christie said Sunday on TV, "a national embarrassment". That is because Chris Christie couldn't say "chickenshit" on TV.

Sidney Powell, who is no longer on Team Trump's "elite strike force" legal team because her conspiracy theories are too far off the wall even for Trump, said she will file her "release the Kraken" lawsuit somewhere, who knows where, this week. Or maybe the week after. Or maybe never.

Meanwhile Georgia and Michigan certified their election results on Monday, and the clock keeps ticking.

I wonder what happened to old Hunter Biden's laptop, you know, the one with videos of him sexually abusing underage Chinese girls? Giuliani must have left in in his clown car.

Thanks for the summary, I cannot keep track of any of these things. But what's happening with that "biblical announcement" ?  I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I've lost track of who was supposed to make it, but it was scheduled for this week, wasn't it?

That is the "release the Kraken" lawsuit former Team Trump lawyer Sidney Powell said she is going to file this week, maybe in Georgia, alleging that the voting machines with the software developed for former Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, converted Trump votes to Biden votes, which was part of a communist funded conspiracy involving Venezuela, Cuba and China. She alleges the Republican governor and Republican Secretary of State of Georgia received bribes to purchase the rigged voting machines and software especially for the 2020 election. She also alleges that the US military has seized, and is now guarding, a server in Germany, with the votes showing a landside win for Trump. You can search Twitter under #wethepeople and #krakenonsteroids, where all the loonies in American hang out, for further information. I recommended not going down those rabbit holes.

Thanks again. I don't plan to do more reading about this, I was just curious about that "biblical" promise. In fact, I stay away from Twitter almost completely. I can see where it would be useful for quick breaking news but I don't often pay attention to that. I tried going on there once or twice just to see but the user experience irritated me.

I don't use Twitter either. Unlike the LuLa Coffee Corner, it is a complete waste of time.

And I assume that you are going to make it a Trump success that he failed in his clear attempts to overturn democracy and will not find it an issue that you’ve been supporting such a President?

Cheers,
Bernard
Going to court to make legal challenges is not overturning democracy.  It's what democracy is all about.  He's failing at that approach so it shows the system is working.  What isn't democracy is when the Obama administration used a phoney dossier created by one party as false evidence to go after an adversary in the other party and create an issue for over two years.  Yet, you refuse to even acknowledge that as an issue.

Says the Serb ...
When you visit NYC, go across the East River to the Prison Ship Martyr's Monument in Brooklyn.  It's dedicated to the 11,500, maybe up to 18,000 American prisoners of war who your British kin allowed to die during the Revolutionary War of 1776 when we fought for our freedom. When they died, the British threw their bodies overboard into the river. More American soldiers died in your prisons than were killed on the battlefield during the 7 year war.  I'd be careful before pointing fingers at others.

Mr. Whatabout debuts a new whatabout: whatabout the English during the Revolutionary War. He gets extra credit because he is also holding a 244 year old grudge.

I agree that private entities should have the freedom to do whatever they want regarding censoring speech.  IF you run a newspaper and refuse to publish certain letter to the editor, that's all legal and acceptable.

The problem with Facebook, Twitter, and similar companies is that they have been given protection by Congress against lawsuits under the public desire that their airways be open to all debate.  The point of this protection was not to then give these entities editorial rights to censor political thought and speech they disagree with.  If they want to do that, then the protection should be removed and they should be treated as any other media like a newspaper for example, who are open to lawsuits.

I haven't heard of any governors asking the Federal government for assistance with building temporary hospitals or providing hospital ships as were requested in the Spring.

If I was a medical worker, I too would want everyone to stay home and wear a mask.  On the other hand, if I was a worker who couldn't feed my kids because the government shut down my business, I'd have a different opinion and want to get back to work.

Also, I hope I don't sound cold, but if you don't want to be exposed to people who have infectious diseases,  why did you become a healthcare worker or doctor?  What did you think is going to happen in that job?  Do firemen complain about fires?  They too protect themselves the best they can and then go into the fire anyway.  So too a medical worker has to protect themselves the best they can, and go into the fire.  They're brave as firemen are.  But there are risks.  Construction workers protect themselves as well with fall protection, masks, etc.  But they still die at rates higher than the average public due to their occupation.

You are absolutely right. In some states, the governors are the problem.
