Wow. Rather different aspect than today, when the police were noticeably lenient and The National Guard was noticeably absent. Perhaps <insert usual suspects here> can explain this.
I’m not part of the < usual suspects > but did watch most of the insurrection on Sky/Fox/CNN. It was alleged by one of the commentators that a request was made for the National Guard to reinforce the police presence but the request had been turned down by the Ministry of Defence.
Now, I’ve no way of verifying that claim but I’m confident that, if true, we’ll hear a lot more in the days ahead.
It does, sadly, have more than just a ring of truth about it. Mark Espers, the previous Sec of Defence, was unceremoniously *terminated* by Trump, shortly after the Election, and replaced by one Christopher C. Miller.
One, if not the main reason, Espers fell out with Trump was Espers refusal to call up the National Guard during the BLM protests last summer. It doesn’t take a clairvoyant to see why, this time round, that would play into Trump’s playbook/agenda- particularly with an acquiescent SecOfDefence in situ.
The reporters on the ground, also reporting, that a multitude of *protesters* leaving the scene , were heard to be repeating “... this is only just the beginning”.
