Underline formatting doesn't work
« on: May 13, 2020, 07:21:01 pm »

Maybe just in a combination with another formatting option.
For example, a sentence is in bold, and part of that sentence is underlined. The preview mode shows it correctly, but when you save it (Post), the underlining disappears.

I've never combined them, so let me try it:
This part is underlined, this part is bold, this part is bold and underlined; this part is plain.

It does look right in the preview.

Try again, closer to your description:

"A sentence is in bold, and part of that sentence is underlined."

This seems to work, too.

"A sentence is in bold, and part of that sentence is underlined"[/u].

I switched the "[/u]" to outside the "[/b]" so the nesting was incorrect. It still almost worked.
Can you show us an example?

Eric,

thank you for your reply. It obviously works in your example.
I tried it again, and I'm getting intermittent results - with the same browser, but in two different tabs.

I'm attaching two files (screen shots from the same post) which show different effects.

Here is the actual text as entered ([] substituted with <>):
<b>A single sneeze releases about 30,000 droplets, with <u>droplets traveling at up to 200 miles per hour.</u></b> Most droplets are small and travel great distances (easily across a room).

I'm using Opera browser on Windows 8.1, so maybe that's where is the problem.

EDIT:
One more  thing. I tried it again (in the same browser tab), and the preview shows it correctly with underlining, whereas viewing the completed post shows it without the underline.

That is weird, because Opera (on Windows 10) is the browser I use for LuLa.

One more thing you might try (as a possible workaround:)

Instead of nesting the <u> inside the <b> section, try closing the firat part of the <b> section, and then enclose the rest of the line with either <u><b>...<b><u>  or <b><u>...<u><b>.

Instead of nesting the <u> inside the <b> section, try closing the first part of the <b> section, and then enclose the rest of the line with either <u><b>...<b><u>  or <b><u>...<u><b>.

I tried it both ways. When in edit (Preview) mode, the underlining takes place, but after I save it, the underlining disappears.

<b>A single sneeze releases about 30,000 droplets, with</b> <u><b>droplets traveling at up to 200 miles per hour.</b></u> Most droplets are small and travel great distances (easily across a room).

I displayed the edited post both in Opera and in Chrome, and I see the same result (bold is visible, but underlining disappeared). So it appears that the nested <b> and <u> codes misbehave. The strange thing is that in your example it worked correctly.

BTW, when I transpose the closing </b> and </u> codes, the last </b> doesn't seem necessary for formatting, and it displays as shown in the red circle. After removing that code, the bold portion still displays correctly, so it seems that the browser interprets the closing underline code </u> as the end of the formatting sequence.

Please, try to view that post and let me know if you see the underlining in the bottom sentence.

LuLa forum administrator, can you shed some light on it?

Looks fine to me in Safari, Opera and Chrome under Catalina.

Les,

Is your Opera the latest version? mine was updated early this year (I can't find a version number, but the date is 2020.)
