Okay, so Trump’s opinion on using light to kill the virus matters I guess.

Actually Trump is against Sweden's approach and not against that governor in the south for opening up too quickly.  These "head fakes" are to show that he's on board with isolation and shutdown.  He really wanted to take the Swedish approach but then got beat into doing what he did.  So now he has to protect what he's done and go overboard by showing how tough he is on shutting down the economy.  Come November, the Democrats are going to beat the economy over his head.  And he's going to show how he followed all the medical advice, how he was opposed to the southern governor and against the the Swedish approach.

Rather than trying to look good for the fall election, maybe Trump should worry about the two big crisis on his hands...dying people and economy in the shithole.

I could keep on going.  At first I thought this was kind of a classic Trump brainfart, but my neighbor, who is both a nurse practitioner and Trump supporter, told me the technology is actually real, so I looked it up.

Second, I have some doubts about the curative effect of this. Why? There are issues regarding the pathology and physiology. UV-A doesn’t go that deep so the virus should be superficial, a good case for the lung. While it might be possible to just kill the virus without injuring the cells, you have to be willing to lose those cells. The UVA is associated with skin cancer, so there is a risk there (it’s used in the tanning booths, maybe that will be the next big thing  ). Let’s say they overcome this but it would take time to see if what you gain, you don’t lose with side effects.
These being said, and there could be said much more, my main issue is that the virus hits the alveoli, the farthest away from the trachea where no scope known to men can come anywhere close. So I don’t see how this can cure it without other side effects. Maybe there is something else involved but I didn’t see it. The only way I can fathom this would be with very fine scopes, taking a long time to approach all the smaller segments, combined with a very powerful light to go through a lot of tissue. The more powerful the light, the higher the collateral damage though.


I saw mentioned that they considered this technology for the gut, where I can see how it might work although I would like to know the long term side effects. There are still significant practical problems.

So you're a doctor and understand these things.  The president and most people wouldn't know an alveoli from a trachea from an elbow. So when someone hears of a preventative solution outside the body, he explores other possibilities and figures maybe it could be used inside.  That's being creative.  After all, we use X Rays and chemo to kill cancer.  But it's use is extremely dangerous and there are huge side effects including breakdown of healthy cells.  The whole thing was made into a political hit job as usual.  The fact is he was right on at least some things such as the UV light actually being already investigated. His ideas were directed in a suggestive way to the scientist who just made the presentation trying to be positive and hopeful to the people that government scientists are working on the problem and hopefully will solve or at least help it.  That's how the media should have presented it instead of laughing at Trump's lack of an immunology degree.  Hit job, again, as been going on for 4 1/2 years.  Doc, you're a smart guy.  You should be able to see what's going on instead of using your professional credentials to give the attack credibility.
