You may not eat much pork, but other people do. The per capita pork consumption in the US was something like 51 pounds per capita in 2019. That's a pound a week per person.
Yeah, I was just trying to show Alan by way of example that his implicit assumptions that 1) demand for meat by consumers is inelastic, and 2) beef, pork, chicken, and seafood are fungible, were not necessarily true. Obviously a hopeless undertaking.

NYC Poison Control Sees Uptick In Calls After Trump's Disinfectant Comments

April 25, 20207:13 PM ET
JASON SLOTKIN

President Trump on Thursday speculated about using disinfectants as possible treatments for the coronavirus. Poison control centers have seen an uptick in calls about cleaner and disinfectant exposures through March of this year.

Alex Brandon/AP

New York City says its poison control center received a higher-than-normal number of calls in the day after President Trump speculated that injecting household disinfectants could be a coronavirus treatment.

The city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said that in an 18-hour period ending at 3 p.m. Friday, the poison control center recorded 30 cases. These included nine "specifically about exposure to Lysol, 10 cases specifically about bleach and 11 cases about exposures to other household cleaners," department spokesperson Pedro F. Frisneda tells NPR. That compares with only 13 cases for the same time frame one year ago.

Mike Pence is so manly he doesn't even wear a face mask in a healthcare facility. What a guy.

And your point is?

First, if you actually believed the president, would you be worried enough to call?  I mean, you are implying that people think it is an honest cure.  If people actually thought this, why would they be worried enough to call in?

Second, are we to believe that NYC is now Trump country?  Just like we were to believe Chicago was Trump country after the Smollett case?

Third, perhaps the uptick is because everyone is stuck inside their house constantly using cleaners to kill the virus?

You really need to try harder.  Yawn.

Even my wife had the smarts to tell me I better order more steak as it's going to get harder to get and more expensive because of the pork processing plant closings.  Trying to get you to understand is a hopeless undertaking.

Once again Peter, you are showing your lack of knowledge.

This from you? Be serious. But I should have said "serious and urgent." And if it's not urgent, how does a delay cause a problem? Non sequitur.

Much more fun now to watch Bolsonaro . . .
Boris returned to #10 yesterday. . . .

They must be watching what the US is doing.  I guess they have economic experts as well as scientific.

The French and Spanish governments on Tuesday announced plans to begin to relax their countries’ coronavirus lockdowns.

Edouard Philippe, prime minister of France, said the move was necessary in order to avert the risk of economic “collapse”.

Looks like they're starting right after my May 4th estimate, on May 7th, although Greece is starting some of theirs MAy 4th, my estimated date I gave a few weeks ago.
In Greece, prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a televised address that restrictions on movement in towns and cities will be lifted from May 4

On the other hand, Portugal is starting a day before my date on May 3.
In neighbouring Portugal, president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced the country’s state of emergency would end on May 3.

Peter, you’re being a fool.  Read Les’s post; it was pretty simple to understand.

These three are currently topping the daily death chart.

(And Pence has just done a Boris.)

But people are complaining.  They keep on pointing out Trump let in 40K USA citizens & Green-card holders after the ban to try and make it look like Trump did not go far enough with it. That is complaining, aka expressing dissatisfaction or annoyance about something.

You are the one bringing this topic back on the table again and again. I do understand though, that’s the only thing he did right...

Cheers,
Bernard

I don’t believe anyone is disputing the need to reopen the economy somehow.

The valid criticism of Trump on this aspect focuses on 3 easily understandable things:
- His total incoherence in messaging. Issuing both perfectly reasonable guidelines calling for a slow and fact based reopening (that would take months in some areas) and then tweeting « liberate Michigan » a few hours later.
- His continued dismissal of scientific facts and of the scientists not agreeing with his dillusions. That would include stats about the disease, about health care community readiness And of course the history book material « shouldn’t we drink désinfectant »...
- His idiotic denial of his core responsibility in the current health and economic situation resulting from his delayed actions in Feb and March

Regards,
Bernard

Yes, the coronavirus is a great experiment in marital relations. If the disease doesn't kill you, your spouse might.  :)

Well then, you shouldn;t vote for him if you don't like the way he's handling situations here in the USA.
