The press would have been fully supportive of Trump had he been a good president making America great again.

Instead is he the poorest president ever.

So your are looking for a left conspiracy as an explanation when the obvious truth is that the reason why 95% of the press is against Trump is because you have to be a fanatic to support him today.

Cheers,
Bernard

There is not one measure prior to this pandemic, which is China's fault, that would agree with you here.  Every metric shown the USA was better off then before.  This statement holds no water Bernard.

Face it, you just cant stand that fact that your religion of experts Obama put in place did not hold a card to Trump.

How is that related to Trump?

Are you saying that you think that the criticism of Trump is due to him being a Republican?

Show him more respect as a hard core supporter.

It has nothing to with him having associated himself with the Republican party. It’s only about him, what he does, doesn’t,...

Cheers,
Bernard

Did you read the article I posted?  It goes into detail about the media bubble, how it is not an exaggeration to say there is one, and how it formed.

I also think it is quite  rich for someone living in Japan to claim to know more about this USA problem.  It just reeks of an elitist mentality.

PS, here are some excerpts and brief summary that more explains why the media bubble exist.

First, you need to remember that industries tend to cluster, not spread out.  The example given was the auto industry, which concentrated in Detroit, not throughout the country.  Only if a strong external reason exist not to cluster, will an industry spread out.  Such was the case with print news.  You had the difficulty of reporting locally, writing up a story, printing the paper, and delivery it on time, which meant you needed to be local.  You also  had your main source of revenue, ad purchases, which were also local.  This kept the news industry somewhat balanced.

However, when print died (and it's dead), everything went online.  No longer did you have issue with printing and delivery, and analytics still allowed advertising to be targeted to one area.  So, as happens with every industry, the news media started to concentrate, and did so in area already  prime for technology, the coasts.  By that, I mean the DC beltway up to NYC and Silicon Valley.

Nearly 90 percent of all internet publishing employees work in a county where Clinton won, and 75 percent of them work in a county that she won by more than 30 percentage points. When you add in the shrinking number of newspaper jobs, 72 percent of all internet publishing or newspaper employees work in a county that Clinton won.

That is a bubble that the media built themselves within.  It may have not been on purpose, but nonetheless it is a bubble.  The people who report ... news can’t help being affected—deeply affected—by the environment around them. ... The “heart, mind, and habits” of the [NY] Times ... cannot be divorced from the ethos of the cosmopolitan city where it is produced. ... The Times’ news reporting is a pretty good reflection of its region’s dominant predisposition. And yes, a Times-ian ethos flourishes in all of internet publishing’s major cities—Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco and Washington. The Times thinks of itself as a centrist national newspaper, but it’s more accurate to say its politics are perfectly centered on the slices of America that look and think the most like Manhattan.

That's the bubble, and that's why the mainstream media is slanted.

Like I said before, a great example of this is how the NYTs is treating Biden's sexual assault allegation vs. how they treated Kavanaugh's sexual assault allegation.  Now that this surfaced, Clip surfaces of Biden accuser Tara Reade's mother phoning into 'Larry King Live' in 1993 alluding to claim it will be interesting if they still are mum's the word on it.  If so, it just proves even further the bias.

Slobodan's screen shot above rekindles my confusions about what is to me the strangeness of some aspects of American behaviour that I find fascinating.

For over 60 years I have interacted with Americans - studying, working, in recreation and in many ways - and I have almost never met one who was not charming, amusing, intelligent, concerned for the welfare of others whatever country from which they might come - exemplars of considerate community behaviour  -  far more outgoing and generous than most Europeans.
Yet some group behaviour sounds a very different note of inate suspicious dread of the motives of others leading to nativist and isolationist paranoia.

I do realize that inevitably, there are sweeping generalizations here and that I am an 'outsider' looking in to a culture that I was not born into or imbibed throughout a life - but I cannot help those facts or that they may well colour my perception -  perhaps someone without those disadvantages (if indeed they are so) could help me ??

I am most certainly not 'anti-American' and where I to give myself a typical writing-to-the-newspaper 'title' it would be "Puzzled of UK and Canada".

Face it, you just cant stand that fact that your religion of experts Obama put in place did not hold a card to Trump.

I fail to see an once of objectivity in your statements. Just try to truly understand why Fortune magazine’s Jan or Dec issue was titled « why Trump is bad for business » and you may start to see why your cherry picked KPIs only tell the part of the story you want to hear.

Trump is not responsible for the virus but he is responsible for how is he dealing with it. And he is applying the same techniques he had been applying before in his mandate. There is always going to be some major crisis and you must assess a President across the full spectrum of a mandate. Not just during the first two years during which he benefits mostly from the situation left by Obama.

The assessment of Trump will have to be done taking into account the huge damage he is making to the US economy in terms of debt and to the world along several axis including the environment, global governance,...

But today what you need to realize even if you are too obtuse to publicly admit it is that a President that seriously recommends his chief scientists to evaluate the relevance of ingesting désinfectant is simply not fit for any office. That would include most remote villages in Africa. I would not want this guy to have any responsibility at all.

I don’t know any privately owned company, and I have had the chance to work with many, who would keep someone with this level of incompetence in any managerial position for any length of time. And that would include teams of a few people in non critical functions.

Cheers,
Bernard

The press should be neither supportive nor opposed.  They're suppose to be neutral. The fact is they opposed him long before he became president.  The whole Russia collusion started before he was elected.   The phoney Russian dossier was started by Republicans first, allies of the Republican Bushes, and only latter picked up by democrat Clinton and the Democrats.  The trouble is the traditional press and media is joined at the hip with the traditional politicians.  Bernard, you really don't understand American politics except what you read in the biased press, the very media that hates Trump.

Alan, it appears Bill Maher is on your side too.

Maher grills Pelosi on endless federal spending: Crushing debt could hurt 'more people than the disease'
Well, he sees all his money disappearing too in an avalanche of inflation just like everyone else's.  Then next year, high income people like him, will be getting taxed higher due to all the debt especially if Biden gets in.  Hollywood is all for redistribution of your wealth.

Sad news story from Detroit about water availability, https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52384622. This might not be the right time to be draconian.

Thanks for waking me up. Awaken or asleep, I really do not care that much about numbers. It could be 2.2 million as far as I am concerned. Why? Because it would still pale compared to 27 million unemployed I do care about. I do care about the living, not those who would be otherwise dead soon anyway. Natural event, nature cleansing itself, team biology.

Yes, indeed, how 20th century of Alan to expect press neutrality, reporting news, and not being rabid attack dogs for their parties.

I realize I might be self-serving to say it.  But I agree with you that Americans are friendly and helpful and caring.  Maybe expanding into a wild, dangerous, and undeveloped country forced people to pull together and help one-another in order to survive.  In other nations, filial support of blood relatives was more important. It could be we're an immigrant nation where you have to go along to get along even with people who are different than you.

We do have an anti-authority streak as the news clip shows.  After all America was born in revolt against the English king. Americans are independent and normally don;t like being told what to do.  I think Europe, China, Asia, and many other places are used to centralized government power running their lives.  Unfortunately, I think we're getting there too, which is a shame, because independent Americans have made us entrepreneurial and allowed a breath of fresh air into new thinking in politics, science, philosophy, religion, and many other things.  I think these things are what's drawn people to America and why we've had such a huge cultural effect on the rest of the world, mainly for the good.  Thank you for your comments.

It is ok for Manoli to call me "extreme right wing," "alt-right" and such, he is certainly entitled to his opinion, but my professor called me something else today:

"a conservative contrarian badass"

I get the feeling he was searching for another word beginning with c but just made do with badass.
