Democrat Nomination for President
« on: January 31, 2020, 05:33:14 pm »

Enough with Trump already.  Let's leave some oxygen for everyone else.  So what's going on with the Democrats?  Will Biden pull it out?  Will America go for a Soviet?  Will Bloomberg get the nod in a brokered convention? Does anyone care?

As to the democrat nomination for a President, Pete Buttigieg should switch to the other party. He would bring a breath of fresh air to GOP, save the party and easily win. I'd vote for him.

That's a really nasty and bigoted statement. You should be ashamed. Maybe you are revealing your real self.

As of when are facts “nasty and bigoted”?

Because if Buttegeig were straight and had a female partner, no one would even think of saying "he can bring his wife along."

By golly, you actually said something that makes sense, Peter. hallelujah! Yes. He COULD bring his wife along. Most presidents do that. But he has a husband. I can see you don't think that would make any difference in the election.  ;D ;D ;D

He might have a chance to be the Dem nominee, Slobodan, but not a prayer of being elected President.

I think it is pretty obvious at this point, Sanders gets it, unless the rules are changed in the 11th hour to allow super delegates to vote in the first round.

I was listening to Ben Shapiro today, and say what you will about him being too brash, I think he hit the nail on the head as to why.  The Dems, over the last 10 years, have been building on intersectional politics and the idea that America is inherently prejudice to many different types of people, which is what Sanders is running on.  We are now at the point where this argument has been played out in its entirety and the (unintended) logical conclusion is that the country is evil and needs to be fundamentally changed in every aspect.  Listen to any Bernie supporter or look at Bernie's plans, this is what his campaign is about.

Now saying otherwise pretty much destroys intersectional politics, which means no one in the party can say this, and that is why no one can beat him in the primary.

The Dems have put themselves in a place where they can not use their best case against Sanders, that being that America is a great country, perhaps in need of some improvements but still one of the greatest causes of good in the history of the world and does not need to be fundamentally changed (which is what most Americans believe).

Biden cant say this without being destroyed by the press.

However Trump can, and that is why Sanders will pull the entire Democratic party down with him when he wins.

Nothing wrong with Melania. Why not leave her in the White House?

I know it's hard to make contact with the facts from over there in the Netherlands, Bart, just as it's impossible for Bernard to make contact from Japan, or for Peter Alt to make contact from North Carolina, but people in the United States just aren't ready for a guy with a husband. Then there's his crappy record as mayor of a small city. Then there's the fact that he smeared Trump voters as people who ignore racism -- a lot like Hillary and the "deplorables." I could go on, but there's no way any of these turkeys is going to become President of the U.S.

No Russ, it's not that hard to get information about what's going on in other countries. We get it that almost half of the US population has a  rather conservative mindset, compared to other western civilizations.

What is more difficult (but not impossible) to understand is why their ideological dogmas are so stubborn, and people with a normal IQ are so closed to things like science. Maybe they are afraid of the future, and would rather live in the (familiar) past?

The Second World War also has something to do with the fact that (European) countries that have experienced occupation by a foreign power may be more alert to the signals that could point to precursors of a similar situation.

If we really said what we thought Jeremy would shut down the thread.  Let me give it a shot in any case.   Americans don't want their presidents getting screwed internationally or domestically.
