Five years late, I just discovered that the standard Camera app on iPhones (and iPads) allows exposure compensation with a simple on-screen slider, and has since late 2014. To show how behind the times I am, here is a 2014 article describing it:

Camera+, though the latter does add a variety of other capabilities that some might find useful, like working with raw files.
