I can't print a panorama on my Epson P800

I can't seem to print to a custom panorama size on my P800. I've done this before, when I first bought this thing a few years ago, but have just been printing sheets since then. Back from Italy, and I have a few panoramas I want framed. Loaded the paper, got by that hurdle, made a custom print size of 17x44 (17 inch roll), which is an almost arbitrary size right now, just want to get something out. Every time I try to print, I get this message: "A roll paper is loaded, but the paper source selected in the printer driver is not appropriate.
The print cannot be continued.
Please match the paper source setting of the printer driver to the loaded paper in the printer.
To print using the paper source setting in the printer driver, remove roll paper and then load the appropriate paper."

But I've checked the paper source twenty times, and it's roll paper.

Funny thing, I think this may be a paper size issue of some sort, because when I specify "US C 17x22 in. (roll paper)" as the size, I was finally able to get a print out, but, of course, it's not the size I want! But, roll paper function worked, otherwise.

This is frustrating. Epson just updated their software, and suddenly I have a new crop of sizes to print to, including these standard size plus roll paper attached to the name. That's not why I have a roll attachment. I bought it for panoramas, and I was able to figure this out on the old software pretty easily, but now I'm mystified.

What are the page settings show a screen shot of that. I just printed a 17/48 pano with no issues?

If you're printing a certain size on the paper and it's roll, you choose the roll option in the print driver so it knows that is being loaded.  As long as you have the size in the software the way you want, you just make sure it will fit the dimensions of the paper loaded (borderless if the full width) or will have a standard .25" border regardless if it's sheet or roll at the same width.  If smaller than the width, you should be fine even for a panoramic.  But if you tell the driver you want (17x22 for example) on the paper and it's a roll, it will not print since you didn't feed a sheet.  The size is based on the software and what you feed is per the drivers.

17" roll for driver settings and 16"x44" for the software and you should be fine (just an example).  Again, doing borderless at 17" will be fine and it's usually certain size sheets for borderless otherwise.

OK, maybe my stupid genes kicked in. I suspect the fix here is simple, as usual, but, I can't find it.

Here, as I said, the attached settings work, and by work, I actually get a print out, although it's not what I want. I input (17x22 roll paper) from their preset sizes in the menu, and I get a print.

....but, these settings don't work at all, and the only difference is that I'm inputting my custom size. So, heh, size matters here. That's the difference.

Go to page setup, manage custom sizes.
Put in the 17" paper width plus 2" of additional length of your print size 17x46.
You have 17x22 set for a 44" length print which will not work.

No, you don't get ir. 17x44 is my custom size. I'm just highlighting the 17x22 (roll paper) preset size, because that actually produces a print. But, it's not what I want. I use sheet paper for 17x22s. I want a 17x44, or 54, or 64, whatever, the 17x44 is just an arbitrary size at the moment in my custom setting, and the printer will not print it. Tells me that I'm not using roll paper, but I am.

Just talked to Epson, the lady was prompt to the phone and nice, knew her stuff, but I stumped her too. Now off to Lightroom to try to print this thing and see if that works.

Now you do have me confused. I thought you had 17x22 in the box and now I see it is changed to 17x44??

I tried two different paper sizes. One, a preset size "17x22 (roll paper)", which actually made a print, but, of course, I don't want that, and my custom size, 17x44, which gave me the error message. That is the difference. The two size settings. One works, one doesn't. I did not have this problem two years ago, but, I do now, and I suspect it's in the Epson updates.

Btw, same in Lightroom, which is good, no way I want to print from Lightroom.

According to your most recent screenshots you have no Presets and no Paper Size.  In the Paper Size box you have "roll", which is not a paper size.  The Paper Size dialog is where you set the actually Paper Size you will use for any particular image.  Presets are basically Custom Paper Sizes that you create, either sheet or roll.  Under Presets you have Last Used Settings, but we don’t know what the Last Used Setting is.  It may indeed be something very far from what it should be.  Also, when creating Presets it must be done with the the paper you will be working with for that particular Preset.  In other words, to create a Preset for Sheet paper, Sheet paper must be loaded, and for Roll paper, Roll paper must be loaded.

Velvet Fine Art is only available in sheets and is recommended front feed only.
The driver won't allow roll feed. Try Ultrasmooth Fine Art for media type.

I know, but, that's what Canson recommends for the Rag Photographique, it's actually right there in the installed profile. But, of course, I tried other standard matte paper settings, no go.

I have done this before, a few years ago. I have a few hanging on my wall. It wasn't this hard. Same printer, same computer. I can only conclude that there is a little bug in the new printer driver that is causing this. Also, it may be another hint that I need a new computer, since I can't update OS beyond Sierra.

I've had the same problem. Initially was successful with 16"x100' foot roll of Luster printing panorama 13x42 using custom template. Wanted to print on canvass and got same error message as you did with 17"x40' both satin and matte rolls. Called Epson and the agent basically acknowledged the problem and didn't offer a work around.

I totally agree, there is no Preset Size for 17x44.  As a matter of fact there are NO Preset Paper Sizes until you create them.  And by the way, once you do create Presets you can definitely edit them at any time.  The attachment shows some of my Presets.  At the bottom of the Presets window you will see two options - Save Current Settings as Preset…. and Show Presets.  In “Show Presets” you will be able to edit the individual Presets as well as delete ones that you may no longer use.  When you create a Preset you name it accordingly for future usage.

I don't think the presets you describe work on the P800. What I called custom templates on my posting were actually presets set up just as you describe. When I spoke with the Epson rep, they said the P800 has problems with such custom presets and directed me to the roll paper alternative for 17x22 standard paper size. This, of course, worked but didn't give me the length I wanted.

Angst with printing presets disappearing after updates and wrong size prints drove me to a printing programme years ago and most problems went away.

You can easily print panos of any size without presets.
I have discovered that Epson has some wrong information even in its own profiles.
Epson hot press Natural for example won't let you select roll paper as a source even though it is sold in rolls.
I have had no success with Epson support who won't even respond.

I totally agree, there is no Preset Size for 17x44.  As a matter of fact there are NO Preset Paper Sizes until you create them.

Um, no. If you are in the print dialog box in Photoshop, which is where I print from and want to continue to print from, mainly because it works and is convenient, when I am asked to assign a paper size, there are a myriad of sizes, and within those sizes, as I mentioned above, there are choices that say, oh, for example, 17x22, and then 17x22 (roll) in the submenu. And the 17x22 (roll) produces a print for me, when I have roll paper in the printer. My custom size doesn't.

Yes! I got it! I was thinking in the gym, maybe this is a language problem. Maybe, yeah, I'm being too cavalier in naming my custom template "roll" (duh). Maybe it needs a much more serious label, like one of the above mentioned preset templates in the various sizes. So, I changed the name of my 17x44 custom size to "17 x 44 in (Roll Paper)", thinking like a coder, making sure the spacing and caps were exactly the same as "17 x 22 in (Roll Paper)" which is a preset, and, as I said above, actually made the printer print. Ouila! My printer started up, and I now have a 17x44 print of an image that, quite frankly, shouldn't be so big. Maybe I'll drop this size down a notch or two. But, success! Thanks for witnessing my agony.
