Maybe we need a new term for people who draw stuff.
I propose "draw-stuff persons." Elegant? Simple? Doesn't have to be spelled differently for British or American audiences?

No, the genres are wide open; what we needed and I think we now have, is a definitive name for the artist working within that medium. I mentioned before that in my case, the problem was word-blindness: not having gone to art school, but having worked in engineering for four years, my reaction to/interpretation of the word draughtsman has always been tempered by its industrial connotations.

Keith brought forth a further, art-based word that perfectly fitted my question and resolved my quandary.

Well, I guess now we can start another endless discussion about whether G*d wanted us to use the term "Draftsman" or the term "Draughtsman" (or the term "Draftswoman" or the term "Draughtswoman," or even the term "Draftsperson" or the term "Draughtsperson")

Or we could just snap some pictures or draw some pictures.

i'm writing this from a hospital bed so will be breif. draughtsman and draughtsmanship are still widely used by artists today. to describe thoso who draw and the skill of drawing.
