He's one of my heroes.

He was just a kid. Maybe I just missed it, but I didn't see anything about cause of death.

No cause of death was noted in the NY Times obit. Here is a an article on him with some of the more iconic images:

I have always found the Kate Moss picture enchanting. It also references a documentary film that came out earlier in the year. I don't know if this is on any of the common streaming services.

In this photograph, Lindbergh encapsulated all that I currently want to shoot: city portraits of beautiful people. Some act to attempt to follow. Some hope, but way better than no hope.
Regarding cause of death: I have seen no official comment, but from one or two late pictures, there appeared to be a rapid loss of weight and the appearance of sudden aging, which often signals one thing.
