What mood were you trying to convey ?

I don't if this refers to me but I'll answer: gloomy with a touch of hope

Maybe it’s just me, but it comes across as a light touch of gloom. Maybe it is the high key luminance.

A place where a disaster struck. I wonder whether it was floods, fire, tornadoes or something else.

Fine images of a sad situation.

For me the first one works better.

Agreed. But the compositions are excellent. The lateral movement lead to the diagonals and then the verticals, with excellent spacing to draw the eyes in. Especially the first image

That's mountain pine beetle work: https://www.climatehotmap.org/global-warming-locations/rocky-mountains-co-usa.html

It really sounds bad. In Europe, there's the spruce bark beetle and in some regions, the impact is painful to see.

Not sure if this image is composite or not, but either way, it is superb!!

Here's one I took last night. I was hoping for a colorful sky and more water in the puddles and got neither after hiking to this spot. Oh well it was a nice hike.

Still pretty good. Forlorn tree baring the elements in a harsh environment.
