It looks to me as if the new management has signed up with an Ad Network.
The Ad Network is giving them a story about how, of course, the ads will be custom-fitted to the web site and it's just a matter of tuning and whatnot. This story is a lie. Ad Networks shovel whatever the hell the automated bidding system comes up with down the pipe, and from time to time it will be a misbehaving ad.
There will be ads that invisibly (or sometimes visibly) cover the whole page, hijacking every mouse click. There will be ads that install malware. There will be ads with broken code in them that crash or freeze your computer or your browser. Just like on the rest of the web.
Install an ad-blocker now, if you haven't got one.
