Adobe Subscription Inflexibilty
« on: December 27, 2018, 07:57:06 pm »

I do not like the pay monthly by CC. In the past I was able to obtain yearly subscriptions and pay in advance, and get a redemption code, but it is not easy. This year, Adobe allows purchase of yearly subscriptions, but NOT for existing subscribers... Just tried it and it was not accepted; I called Support and they confirmed that.

So... I need to wait until my current plan ends (in a couple of weeks), officially cancel it, and then get a prepaid year subscription for a new one. I will do it with PayPal as I d not want to have a valid CC on file for the future... I guess I will have to execute this kludge every year.

Nuts!

Most subscription services provide a discount for annual subscriptions but Adobe does not.  Curious corporate behavior as money in the bank up front is worth more than money coming in monthly.

The annual subscription allows being off the net for up to 6 months while monthly I believe just one month.

I am billed monthly and don't have to sign on every month to validate.

I don’t really think that is true.  Adobe's stock was doing nothing until they went subscription and it's skyrocketed in the last 3-4 years.  They are more assured of a constant income stream from the subscription than to the fits-n-starts of someone deciding to buy this years PS/LR version.

Are you on the internet anytime during that month. The subscription validates itself without you knowing about it.

The why do they requires that you log in every so often?

What do you mean log in? What are you logging into and how does it require you to do so.

I just use LR / PS without any other interaction and am always on the net.

Don't understand what you are saying here.

The software refuses to work unless it can phone home regularly.

It try's to validate your subscription every 30 days. If it cannot get a connection to Adobe, it will display a message indicating to reconnect the Internet.

With an annual subscription, you can run an extra 99 days without validation.

I have an annual subscription which I also pay via PayPal. I don't need to be reminded every month. Mine was up for renewal on Nov 29 and I got an email saying that if I renewed a week earlier I'd get 2 months free, so I did. I doubt that will happen every year.

That is correct.
