This shot is wider than it is high, so it must be Landscape.   ;D

There are, of course, really only three "classic" genres: Landscape, Portrait, and Square.
This shot is wider than it is high, so it must be Landscape.   ;D

Actually, Eric, there's one other one: Drivers' License Photo. That's a genre anybody should be able to recognize at a glance.

From an International Photography Awards (IPA) invitation (emphasis mine):

Quote
Dear Photographers,

We wish to take the opportunity of the New Year to say thank you for being a part of the IPA community, and to wish you the very best for 2019. At IPA and the Lucie Foundation, we are thankful to all of you who are helping us to promote the appreciation of photography worldwide. In the past year we've seen truly outstanding work from both professional and emerging photographers, and we are looking forward to a 2019 full of more great achievements in the field.

Street photography is an artist’s lens showing real life, chance encounters, and random moments set against the backdrop of the urban landscape. In order to promote and honor this unique and incisive genre of photography, we've opened a special theme photo competition, “Street”. This One Shot competition is open until February 28, 2019. Submit now to win $6,000 in cash prizes!

As a a single-image online photo competition, you can only submit one image per entry in one of the following categories: Lifestyle (urban scenery), People (portraits), Geometric (shapes and forms), Moments (perfect place and timing), Public events (rallies, marches, politics, street festivals), Special (shadows, reflections, silhouettes and special techniques), and Mobile (smartphone photography).

From an International Photography Awards (IPA) invitation (emphasis mine):

Problem is, they, like many similar outfits insist that street involves an urban landscape. It doesn't, as anyone who's studied the great street photographers will tell you.

I ‘m afraid we are stuck with the one remaining authority: Bruce Gilden.

Yeah. Gilden thinks street photography involves walking down a crowded street in a photographer's equipment vest, flash in his left hand, which he sticks in people's faces, and then shoots. He's a real authority on the subject.

I'll take any image from Bruce Gilden over this one. Can't believe it survived even a cursory edit.

You’re not paying attention, Fab. This picture isn’t street. It’s landscape.

Nah, Rab! Gilden just isn't that big a deal. He's pretty forgettable. Here's a clip to refresh your memory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkIWW6vwrvM

Well, I know you work a lot in the genre called "reject," but this doesn't fit that one.

Interesting. And such a character is permitted to roam free through the streets of NY unpunished?

You are a very tolerant people.

Probably he chooses his subjects cautiously or else he would lose his teeth. Or roams with bodyguards.
