New forum topic?
« on: November 09, 2018, 01:20:50 pm »

What do y'all think of creating a new forum topic for B&W photos? Perhaps it's a dumb idea and B&W photos should just be part of a another group,
but I thought I would float the idea.

It would be nice, but would it create anything positive?

Almost all my own work is b/w but apart from one or two others with similar feelings, is there likely to be critical mass?

I can see that it might lead to war games over film and digital capture legitimacy, which could be fun... whatever fun is.

I think that were it to be limited to film work, it would be interesting, but do enough filmies exist here?

Why not post a couple of shots in a new thread and see how it goes?

Best of luck!

. . .but do enough filmies exist here?

Here's one, Rob. These are all from film, and I have many more from Korea, Thailand and Vietnam:

But a lot of it is legitimate street. That may jar some of our posters.

Why limit postings to film scans? Media shouldn't matter.

I agree, Fab, but Rob asked the question.

I’m generally opposed to fragmenting  (segregating) topics; the internet has a bad tendency to cut off some communication due to that. So I would recommend experimenting with threads in existing forums—only if they start to overwhelm a forum with posts that most or having to dig past would a separate forum be desirable.

And please, no film vs digital segregation!

Agreed; it's why I suggested trying a new thread rather than section. If it grows, then perhaps it makes good sense to separate it.

Regarding the film or digital capture thing: there already exists a film and darkroom section here in LuLa - might it be a place for such a thread to begin, or would it have to exclude digital capture if it starts out there? No, might be better in the "art" section where no distinctions exist on that score.

For b&w I shoot film and.......glass plates. :)  It's tremendous fun.  I just got back a 1931 Baby Rolleiflex (4x4 on 127) from being fully CLA and put a roll of Efke 100 in it tonight.  As for a dedicated forum, I guess I'm neutral.  I would have "stuff" to contribute to it on a regular basis as I've been shooting pre-Civil War camera gear (lenses) more than digital the past month or two.

I would suggest a thread in the Art of Photography section called "Black and white showcase -- all media."

Good, analytical thinking. My wife would have approved.

(She - my wife - seldom used "the look" because I knew better than get to that side of her. Sweetness and sunshine was a far wiser course to steer. Yes, I really did know how to manage that - I used to have to sell projects, remember!)

Maybe it could fit under the existing Photographic Styles section of the AoP and be able to retain its distinction from the other threads therein?

I suppose one thing would have to be made clear: is it or is it not to be a critiques welcomed thingy?

;-)

That would be a lot of rewind for the clock. Don’t know that it would stand up to the abuse. :-\ :-\

I was just thinking of clocks this morning, and how they leap ahead in spring. Isn't it wonderful how, come New Year, they spring forward an entire year and nobody, other than I, even notices the gap?

Send it to Geneva for repair; it'll be so expensive it'll be left in the dealership for ever, uncollected.

Yup.

Thank the Gods we don't have to change light bulbs here on LuLa, we'd be permanently in the dark.
