Back on topic — it is interesting that the overall review assessment is so different from the focus taken in some places on some weak aspects of AF performance.

Is there any way to change the thread title? I'm sure G7 for Z7 is just a typo... There have been a few G7s over the years (no less than three Canon compacts, plus a Panasonic Micro 4/3 body), but the Nikon everybody's talking about is a Z7...

DPReview's review is not bad - they make a bigger deal of the banding than many people indicate it is (I haven't seen it yet, and, judging from Jim Kasson's tests, it takes quite a bit to trigger it). They also comment negatively on the AF, which matters much more for some types of photography than others - there are real reasons not to use the Z7 for sports or perhaps wildlife, events or  fashion if you have something else in your bag, while it doesn't matter at all for landscape and many other disciplines.

Apart from those two complaints, they're highly positive on it...

The review seems fair to me.

I am still investigating the AF, sometimes it works really well, sometimes not. So far it seems like area AF is the best for portraits.

Not really but Thom Hogan mentionned this also.

I did notice this once only in auto mode, which I hardly ever use.

Don’t you notice any lag or wobble with EVF? HMM from the reviews I have read it’s a great camera but not quite ready for prime time use for me. But as a back up it could work.

A lag has been reported when manual focusing using the magnified view, especially with focus-by-wire lenses. Other than that I have not noticed any lag with Z7. After using Z7 for a while, it seems that it will make my a7rIII obsolete, but I will still hang onto my A9 and Sony lenses.

I think it is personal needs that determine if the camera is ready for prime time or not. The way that I plan to use it, there is nothing missing with Z7.

There is no significant lag with MF lenses such as the Otus. With the focus by wire S lenses, there is some, but it has been improved a bit with the firmware 1.1 I feel (but I didn't do any rigorous testing).

It is a great body to use with MF lenses on static subjects. I am even considering buying back an Otus 85mm f1.4... But I'll probably save that cash for the 58mm f0.95 that should be more compact and most likely even better optically.
