A stop along the way

Careful examination suggests it is more like a final dstination, short of the scrapyard, of course...

Quite correct. It was a stop along the way at one time. Originally built in 1887, when the trains stopped running in 1970, the station was slated for demolition. A local teenager who had grown up next door to the station couldn't bear the thought, and bought it for $500 in 1974. In 1989 he opened it as an inn, which now includes a number of renovated cars/cabooses rented for accommodation. Guests are served in the dining car.

Thank you ~ O ~. I just checked my files and do have one with train in motion. However, it is not sharp. We were not allowed tripods and the light levels were very low. I started using the multiple shot technique where one hopes one of the images will be sharp. By then too late, we had moved on. I like Slobodan's explanation where he posted in the Abstract thread, that our vision for what we see and photograph is an iterative process. Start with something then hone in on what really interests us. This is the way I work, in fact.

I really like Larry's image of the train depot. So old world, so rustic and nostalgic. In general, I like most of the bw work I see here. Some of the high contrast scenes, vignetting and sense of motion techniques, such as in double-cross, I really like. I will have to try some of this. Well done.

This one is a station, but in many respects it has the look of the inside of a domed rail car.

Yard locomotive in fog, Boston, ~1959.
Hand-held, 35mm, probably Plus-X at that time.

I vaguely remember a time where trains and tunnels formed part of sex education for the very young.

I guess that what's learned young is never fogotten...

All that control, and not a histogram in sight.

Where is the time of good old pushed trix in a center weight measuring M6.

With a bit of understanding it was almost fool proof.
