No, I don't think so. I have seen Armillaria before. Not a single one had a dome shape. That's not them. Mine are really orange and match what I posted 'Cantharellus cinnabarinus' seen here: http://www.fungiphoto.com/CTLG/pages/0314-19.html

Thanks for trying and your interest.

Got issues and can't do daily walk for a while. So will post some alternates from the walks.

JR

From a distance (or in a small picture) these two mushrooms look indeed similar. There is a distinct difference in the shape of these two mushrooms and the honey mushroom has also a ring on its relatively thin foot, whereas chanterelle's foot is more substantial and without a ring. As you say, John, chanterelles are orange, whereas honey mushrooms come in a colour resembling honey.

I didn't take any photos of honey mushrooms clusters on the ground, only already picked on a plate, but I remember that they looked like yours when I found them in a forest.
I've picked and eaten both varieties, and the chanterelle is a meatier, much better tasting mushroom with a nicer texture.

Excellent find Dave. Yes I would say that is what I found, though I had many which were variegated in shape. They were so unusual.
Les: Thanks. You seem to really know your mushrooms. I have faint recollection of seeing those honey mushrooms.

Night moods.  Had a better one with more light, but again the exposure was too slow for hand holding. Taken right above the handholds. I believe someone else had a similar image:

More magnificent, marvelous, munchy, mellow, mushrooms; chanterelles, I guess. Taken on daily walk.

Selfishly John, as I've been enjoying your walks, I hope you will consider a better ID book before consuming, or at least a cat to munch a test meal the night before~ (Insert tongue in cheek here)

Which reminds me of a mushroom walk my wife and I attended many years ago by a couple who were both experts (and both previous presidents of the Boston Mycology Club.) The scary part was witnessing them arguing about the identity of several mushrooms.

But they agreed on the Chanterelles, and picked some, which they sauteed up as soon as we got back to their house. They were indeed delicious!

Thank you for the comments Patricia, Eric and John. I love mushrooms, but it was Les that commented on my images and disclosed that he is a mushroom picker and eats them - not me! I just photograph them- phew!

This willow weeps no more. He looks more like a spectre that haunts the woods.

Back when I was trying out the ICM technique a year or two ago, I made some images of a weeping willow. They also looked rather spooky. But yours came out a lot better than mine, John. Go figure.  ;)

It remains intriguing that for me personally these images either work brilliantly or they do nothing at all. Especially for the complete abstracts. Apparently it manages to appeal to some instinctive basics, and i would posit that there may be a subset that definitely is universally appealing, or at least universally recognisable.

Thank you for the comments ~ O ~. I actually agree with your comments. I get the same response from family and club members. They either like them a lot or not at all.

Thanks Eric 8)
Now here is one from today's walk, Sept 28. I think I will use it for my 'creative competition' at the club.
