I like the image - but (in my opinion) it would be brutal to print and I'm not sure there's enough dynamic contrast in a paper print to maintain the effectiveness when even on screen the subtle differences are just barely enough (again IMO)...
I think you are right, James. I am thinking of metallic paper? It would require a lot of experimentation, I am sure. Perhaps lifting up the contrast, based on paper, just to reach the same visual effect as on screen.
Apropos... I often have to add 1/3 f/stop exposure to images resized to 800px for viewing here, for instance. While the image might look right on a 27" monitor, once resized it appears much darker.
In other words, both medium and size matter.
