Tobermory (aka Balamory)
« on: October 17, 2017, 07:52:15 am »

Popped over to the Isle of Mull for a few days last week with my camera and the weather was not good, so had a run out to Tobermory to see what I could see and even though it had just been raining, I setup at the side of the main car park anyway, to take the obligatory 'tourist shot' of the different coloured houses along the harbour at Tobermory (you will probably know this area as Balamoray from the popular kids programme as shown here). So anyway, I setup not expecting much with the dark clouds and everything, then just as I started to work the scene, the whole place lit up like you see it here, but just for a few minutes and long enough for me to capture the whole pano shot. Another photographer friend of mine sat on a bench at the side of me, with his camera tucked away safely in its bag and just shook his head and started to swear and call me a lucky bugger, as he then rushed to setup is gear just in time for it go dark and start raining again.

Well, luck must favour the prepared I suppose  ;D

Nice composite. I like it.

Btw.: Isn't it a shame that the prepared ones never have luck? ;)

As they say, "you make your own luck".

Nice pano, even if it is the tourist shot then lighting elevates it.

Thanks everyone and yes I know this scene is a bit of a cliched postcard type of shot, but as I told myself when I was taking it, that if I am enjoying myself, then why the hell not ;D

Oh and here is an updated version, but with all those horrible and annoying dust spots removed  ;)

Thanks again.

Tobermory is one of those locations where a bad photo is nearly impossible. Great capture, Dave.

Thanks Terry, much appreciated  :D

I go to Mull regularly anyway as we have friends who live there and because of the RET (Road Equivalent Tariff for ferries crossings) now in operation, to take a car over to any of the Scottish islands is now only a few pounds and if you are over 60 as we both are, then it is completely free for passengers RET.

Crazy low pricing by the Scottish government IHMO, with a massive hike needed in subsidies just to support this bonanza, but it does mean you can now travel all around the coast of Scotland and to all the islands that are served by ferries, which is almost all of them, for not much more than a few quid.

It's total madness, but what the heck, we're having a ball  ;D
