What an extraordinary image!

When I first glanced at it, it almost seemed to me that this image had been shot back in the days of slide film with a high ISO resulting in monster grain.
The B&W treatment also lends to this impression.
However, this is all illusory since the "grain" is just all the sites where snow has accumulated on the trees, the rock slopes, and the scree at the bottom of the rocky outcrops.
I am not sure, but there may still be snow falling that also gives it a bit of a grainy look.

A most arresting image that will need several viewings to properly appreciate it!

Yes, Chuck is known for his crunchy images. This one works well.

Very nice. I am left wondering how this scene would look with just a touch of mist, to add to the ambiance.

Thanks for a having a look guys.  Interesting comments.

I think this shot suffered from the jpeg compression.  There is quite a bit of tonal variation in the details of the original.

Tony - interesting reaction.  But yes that is pretty much what it looked like.  I have to confess to a fascination for textures and complexity but it often doesn't transmit very well.
Scott - guilty as charged.
Paulo - my smoke machine doesn't reach quite that far and it was too cold for the real thing but it would have been a nice touch.
Francois - yes it was cold but I have to make a minor confession.  I shot this sitting at our dining room table through an open window so I only froze my fingers. :)

Best - Chuck
