D7200 fEE error at min aperture
« on: December 26, 2016, 04:25:15 am »

I tried a couple of AF-D lenses on my D7200 and got the fEE aperture error even though the ring is locked at minimum aperture. The lenses work fine on my D810 so it appears to be a camera problem. The camera is quite new and the contacts are clean. Any other possible reasons before I take it in for inspection? Sounds like an electronics problem?

Try a factory default reset and updating to the latest firmware (if available). Make sure the lens contacts are also clean. If everything fails then send it in for repair, since it's new I assume it's still under warranty.

Which lenses were you using?  I've used quite an array including some older non-AF on a couple of 7200's without encountering your fEE. So unless it's something specific to those lenses, I have to guess that you're right.

50 1.8 AFD and 20 2.8 AFD

Huh....

I haven't used either of those lenses, but I can't imagine there'd be a problem specific to using them on a 7200.  Unless someone knows differently, it sounds like time for an email swap with Nikon service, if not a phone call.

There should be no problem at all. I've used the 50 1.8D extensively and still use a 50 1.4D daily on my D7000.

There are no compatibility issues with the D7200, so it seems to be a problem with the body itself if the firmware or settings reset doesn't fix it.

Turns out its some busted electronics. Exactly 1 week out of the warranty period.....
