positive things about Adobe
« on: November 27, 2016, 12:50:22 pm »

So... its a sunday night, I'm moving software from one old laptop to another and have 'lost' a recent adobe purchase and serial number, all I had was my c card confirmation...

Adobe chat was fantastic, on a sunday night they found the details, sorted out the email login error, and swiftly helped me get my USA and UK Adobe purchases (previously 2 id's) all under on Adobe ID....

I know we bash them about their cranky un-tested software, and the CC thing, I know I've voiced my negativity in the past, but credit where credit is due....  they were there, on a sunday eve and they helped me out when I needed them to...

Big thx Adobe....

(Its all the CC subscriptions paying for the 24/7 omline help :) )

I've phoned their support a couple of times when things got out of sync and they were great.  Courteous and quick to fix the issues.

Well, you guys aren't Real Photographers, as Real Photographers have nothing nice to say about Adobe.

I've found them pretty good on telephone help too, but then I'm probably not a Real Photographer either.

 ;)

Simon, I'm just a rank amateur plodding along trying to learn as much as I can about photography in the hopes that someday I may produce a worthy photo and print.

You and me both, Ron. On the infinite number of monkeys principle, we'll get one in the end. In the meantime, I for one find Adobe products enormously helpful. Better than others? I don't know and I really can't be bothered to find out unless someone promises me that the effort will be worth while.

I read this with some hope of making it apply to my horrible user experience with LR....
So I am testing alternatives, and knowing maybe they wont be as rosey in the way others do things, BUT, maybe that is the problem with LR to begin with, doing too much.

I am starting to wish it had a BROWSE mode vs a DATABASE and process only approach.

I'm testing ON1 Raw, and while it has many short comings as a Beta right now, I am loving the speed of 42mpixel files being worked on, and the interface while can use things, I am liking it. Maybe in conjunction with ACDSee Ultimate I can tackle projects.

I did learn one thing from this experience ....

When I moved to LR (I think it was 2.7? or 3) as a "solution" after C1 and its "user issues" with dumping a number of folders in each project folder, and just being so different from standard OS behavior.......
But the bottom line is to follow the DAM Peter Krogh original method of making a database using a Hierarchy folder list system and NOT giving a single application Adobe or other, the power to take over your life work.

With Adobe being a global serving multi-national corporation, I would hope their customer service department would be helpful ... and I would expect them to have someone available on Sunday evenings. Because in many parts of the world, Sunday is just another day ... and in other parts, it was already Monday morning.

Adobe also never seems to have any difficulty charging and receiving their monthly stipend for my CC subscription. But they have had epic failures over the past 12-18 months with app updates, to the point where I have had to roll back to a known working version of Lightroom ... FIVE TIMES!

I'm not trying to sound ungrateful or unappreciative of Adobe's efforts or belittle the OP's positive experience. In the end, that which causes most of the problems between Adobe and end users is not customer service, it is a result of the lack of attention to detail in the products they release and/or the absence of thorough and careful thought applied to decision making by the managers and executives in charge.

I too have had very positive experiences with Adobe CS over the past 24+ years of using their software. On the very few occasions where I encountered a problem with installation/registration/activation. Unfortunately, their QA/QC counterparts at Adobe have not been nearly as diligent or thoughtful in their efforts.
