I've been looking to upgrade my tripod to a proper support in the studio, I've been having a Manfrotto 190XPRO4 which serves as a travel and regular tripod in the studio for now but it's lacking geared center column and its Q90 horizontal feature is limited. I do a lot of precise composition product photography (overhead top-down) and I have the following requirements:
- Geared center column with crank handle (center column extension preferably long, more room for finer vertical adjustment)
- Has or supports lateral arm (I prefer not to use a different lateral arm from different system/brand)
- Taller than 180cm/70"
- Considered feature, a mid level spreader for tripods
I'll be pairing the support with the Arca Swiss p0 Hybrid (I think this fine tuning is enough and the d4 is too much). I'm not looking to pay for a Gitzo Systematic plus its geared long center column and its lateral side arm (total roughly $1800). I did some research although I think I may have missed some lesser known brands.
Tripods:
Manfrotto 058B Triaut
+ 217cm tall
+ Quick release legs
+ Mid level spreader
+ Manfrotto 131D Lateral Side Arm
− 26cm center column
Manfrotto 028B Triman
+ 227cm tall
+ 48cm center column
+ Mid level spreader
+ Manfrotto 131D Lateral Side Arm
− Small tubes , 19, 20, 25 mm
Cullmann Titan 935G
+ Quick release legs
+ 44cm center column
+ Tilting column accessory, CONCEPT ONE OM510
− It's short, just shy of 162 cm
Sirui and Velbon alternatives are just short. Then there is Feisol which has no geared center columns. And these are more for portability, I'm not after portability, I'll have a different travel tripod.
I am very interested in Majestic tripods but I can't seem to find any further information or review on their 6500 & 7500 series. Seems to be discontinued on B&H, I wonder when these two were released.
