It's A Sad Day AT Luminous-Landscape
« on: May 19, 2016, 12:36:36 pm »

It is with a very heavy heart that I must share sad news with our readers and the rest of the photographic community.  After an extended battle with cancer, the Founder of Luminous-Landscape, Michael Reichmann, has passed away.  He was surrounded by family and friends over the last few weeks.  He put up a valiant fight.  He passed late on May 18th at age 71.

A huge loss. I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm blessed to have been able to spend some time with this dear man, I will miss him.

Two snap's of Michael I've always cherished. The first is what I call "I'm so happy here I could just shit" with a classic expression on his face. The 2nd, Michael literally swimming with Piranhas, not phased by it, taking photo's.

Ah Jesus!! I am just in tears as I type this, had no idea Mike was ill. I was fortunate to have met and spoken with him a few times over the years and also to have gotten some very good advice from him on various matters.  This is a group shoot taken at a dinner he hosted at Ruby Foo's in NYC some years back, yours truly is in between Thomas Knoll and Chris Sanderson, it was one of the most memorable days of my life!

Rest Easy Michael,

A huge loss for us all. Not only for LuLa readers, but for photographic community as a whole.

Even though I lost several close family members like that, and knew all too well what Michael was dealing with, I still somehow hoped...

To those sharing photos of Michael here: thank you. Please keep them coming.

I never had the honor of meeting Michael in person but feel that I knew him a little bit from his writings and videos. I've followed LL almost from its inception. It's a sad day indeed and a great loss to the photography community. Andreas

Hi,

I always regarded Michael Reichmann as great person, a great artist, a great teacher but also as a distant friend. Very sad to hear he is now longer with us.

Best regards
Erik

This news is so sad. Without Michael's inspiration and LuLa I would never have been able to embrace the digital revolution. After fifty years in the wet darkroom, I would have just given up photography altogether.

My deepest sympathy to his family and close friends. He was a gentleman, a fine teacher, and inspiration to so many of us. Rest in peace, Michael.

Let us all try to keep his generous spirit alive through this community.
