It is very sad news - I felt devastated when I read it.  He taught me an enormous amount through LuLa.  I was lucky to meet him on a workshop in Antarctica.  He was incredibly easy to talk to and took an interest in what I was doing as with others.  He was a fine person and will be missed deeply.

My best wishes to his family.

Brian

Relatively new to Lula, I'd quickly come to see Michael's playful humor as leavening (with his experience) an endeavor that otherwise all too often tempts us to engage ourselves much too seriously. His love of photography and his mastery and gave off a vision of the endeavor unburdened by self-conscious self-concern. I found that compelling enough to stick it out, to wade into his material, and to learn something - even as he intended and afforded - from my distant portal on his Luminous Landscape. Thank you, Michael! Glory to God for your life and your gift. My prayers for your family, your friends, and all you touched. Memory eternal!

My wall is proudly adorned with a Baobab Alley print, used to raised funds for a friend of his who had cancer.

A special man indeed

Like all here I'm saddened at Michaels passing. Thankfully, I have the Lightroom videos as well as PtS. So in a way ,as long as I continue to watch Michael in these videos, he is still here. Also, have just been perusing Micheals posts, some are classics. Kevin please leave these on LULA.

I exchanged emails with Michael a few times and inspired him to help a friend who had been injured in s terrible accident.

Nothing but respect for this great founder of a unique and fantastic website which I will continue to visit very frequently.

It's in good hands with Kevin, an equally likable fella.

I do not look upon death as a sad thing but as a joyful passing from one realm to an even better one.

But my condolences to his family.

Condolences to family & friends. Sad news that I actually got through the site of dpreview. A sign that he will be missed on more places than LuLa. I have to thank him most of all for creating the forums photographers and printers love to read and write for.

Very sad news. What a shock. My daily Lula read wont be the same.

Thank you for the last 15 years or so. I have learnt a great deal from you and your site.

A glass of Glenrothes always marked special occasions in the past few years

Stopped by my local wine & spirits emporium this afternoon…the photo shows the result. Good to know Michael wasn't drinking the cheap stuff!   ;D  Now that I've swallowed one neat I get the appeal too. It has the sweetness of a good bourbon combined with Scots complexity & tang.

Think I'll have another, preceded by a toast to Mr. Reichmann!

Keep toasting and drinking.  I know I have.  Michael is smiling.  Thanks for the thoughts.  Share a photo of the empty bottle one day.

I never met Micheal but his impact on my photography was immense. Especially the video tutorials and gear reviews. I had hoped to do an Antartic photo trip with him but didn't have the funds. A very big loss!

My condolences to his family and friends—let his spirit shine on...

Very sad news indeed, I only met Michael once. I was having a case of the February blahs a few years ago, with my somewhat seasonal photography business in it's slower winter period. I dropped into his gallery in Toronto,  perused his prints and we had an uplifting talk about photography. I was in much better spirits when I left and emailed him to that effect. He has been a tremendous resource for those of us who had to transition from film to the digital realm.

Like many distant but longtime LuLa fans I imagine, I have come to feel like I knew Michael quite personally from all the videos, writings, etc. and time I've spent on the site.  Very sorry to see him go.  What a driving force and personality!  He will be missed round the world.

I imagine one of the greatest ongoing tributes to him will be the continued flourishing of this site.

Just wanted to send my condolences to the Reichmann family.
What a great man who will be truly missed.
A real loss to the photography community. I can't tell you how much I have learned over the years on this site.
Michael was not only a great unbiased gear reviewer, but also a wonderful photographer and most importantly a great teacher.
