Nothing wrong with slowing down the spread by using masks. I don't know why Trump and many Republican governors find the idea antithetical. Might save a few lives between now and the time everyone gets vaccinated.

Right-wing fanatics create false narratives around groups of people they have targeted as an essential component of their ideology.

As would the victims of the false narratives created by any ideological zealots, including right-wing fanatics. Masks slow it down but don't stop the spread.  Plus, the spread escalates as soon as people start doing things together like eating out, parties, etc.  Just watch the rates next week after Thanksgiving ends.  "free spirit" or freedom does add to the spread. The solution is to maintain safe social distancing. You don't have to live in the communist China for that. Just look at New Zealand, Atlantic Canada, Taiwan, Singapore.

I am sure you understand how statistics, media, and availability bias works.

There might be millions of birthday gatherings, parties, Thanksgivings, weddings etc. where no one will be infected. Or some will be with mild or non-existing symptoms. Remember, chances of being infected is 1-2%. And chances of dying if infected another 1-2%. Which in total gives you a 0.01-0.04% chances turned into a panic porn.

The "science" behind masks is still highly debatable, and contradictory. There are countries and government in the world (Dutch, for instance) that openly state that science does not support that masks are effective, and do not even recommend them, let alone issue fascist orders to muzzle the population.
