C1 update - good additional features!
« on: May 06, 2020, 06:43:04 am »

The new (free) release of C1 seems to have some good improvements in the retouching department - healing brush and clone tool working much better, before vs after slider

I watched this live on YT. It was a great show and I'm looking forward to both things they showed.

I wonder what else they'll have? It could be interesting.

Yes, impressive improvements, especially the Healing/Cloning improvements.
Assuming plenty of cache memory, it sounds good that there is no limit to the number of corrections on a layer, AND that it doesn't noticeably slow down the processing.

The before/after slider is a nice addition, although I tend to prefer a toggle, as also provided by a shortcut. Maybe I'll change my mind.

Looking forward to the other improvements as well.

There is a toggle as well. So, they have you covered.

nowhere as good as Adobe has... they need to have functionality at least close to what you can do w/ variants w/o creating them.

Not sure what you are hinting at? Could you elaborate?
I'm sure the folks at Phase One are open to suggestions.

because their "BEFORE" state is not adjustable really, while in ACR (for example, I am not using LR) you can compare 2 sets of adjustments (in C1 you need to deal with variants for that, which is a hassle really) - not to mention that in Adobe the way you compare Before/After is way more flexible (vertical/horizontal, w/ or w/o separate subwindows) + in ACR you can save intermediate sets of adjustments (in C1 you need to pollute/clutter things with variants)...

Has it acquired a history palette, like the one in LR?

Not that was demonstrated in the video.

That's a shame. Its absence is the main thing that puts me off switching from LR. Ah well - one day, perhaps.

This used to be one of my big issues with Capture One.  Eventually, there were enough positives with CO, that I decided to put up with the lack of history.  That was three or four years ago.  Now, I don't know what I'd do with a history if I had one.

CO has the ability to turn each tool off/on independent of everything else.  That along with the ability to easily make copies of the image work better for me than a history would.

There is now a "Nikon version" of capture One which includes the typical Nikon picture controls (Standard, Vivid, Landscape, etc.) which is also avaliable in the "Pro" version.

Nice, let’s hope it means we’ll have even better colors for Nikon bodies.

I guess it means that Nikon has finally given up on their misguided software efforts and will devote those resources to something useful... 😀

Who knows, we may get some DNG raw files, an opened mount...?

Cheers,
Bernard

I love the new version! Great new tools and other refinements.

I have found that the trick to good performance with reference folders C1P catalogs is a fast SSD and keep you image catalogs under 25k images. I had to split my 150k+ Lightroom catalog into smaller C1P catalogs by year. For my shooting 2 years is about 20-25k images.

Bud James

Well, they have now included Joe McNally as a Capture One ambassador

I wonder if they created a lens profile for the Nikon 80-400.  So long overdue.
