BW profiles for Pixma Pro 1
« on: April 05, 2015, 02:49:12 pm »

Dear all,

I did a quick look, but could not find third party icc profiles for printing with the Canon Pixma Pro-1 in BW print mode. Does anybody know any website providing free profiles?

I'm very happy with the results but the shadows could still benefit a bit from specific profiles. I cannot justify at the moment the cost of a proper spectrometer for paper profiling (although I have a spyder 4 colorimeter for my monitor).

ICC profiles for the Canon Pixma Pro 1 provided by paper manufacturers are for color printing. In principle, BW printing mode makes much more use of the gray inkset than color mode (with a BW image), therefore their icc profiles are not useful. BW printing mode provides, according to some reviews, much better tone control and durability, which is understandable (although color inks are still used to some extend).

Cheers,
Santiago

I can't speak for the Canon's but a couple of years ago, Epson (or was it Epson & Apple) removed the ability to use BW profiles w/ their ABW mode.

Would  RGB -> gray -> RGB conversion be a possible route?
