Camera model missing on metadata
« on: February 15, 2015, 06:40:02 pm »

I have just noticed, when I searched for my 7D2 video files using the metadata tab on the library filter in LightRoom, the camera model does not seem to be always recorded in the metadata of the video files. I had to look under "unknown camera" to find the files.

The Camera model does appear for video shot with my 7D, but does not appear for the Olympus TG-3, nor the Canon PowerShot S110.

Is this normal, or is it something wrong at my end ?

This is weird.
That sort of metadata is part of EXIF metadata and should be automatically recorded on import.
Also the only editable component of EXIF metadata that I am aware of is Capture Time.
The rest cannot be altered.

Just as check: If you go an individual image shot with the 7D II is the model and serial number recorded?

Tony:

Thanks for jumping in.

Two screen grabs below

1. Still shot taken via 7D2 (note no video file types)
2. Video taken with 7D2

From what I can see of the first screenshot all the usual EXIF metadata is present.
The second screenshot has a video clip highlighted and the displayed EXIF metadata is limited.

From what I can tell this is the normal state of affairs.

Thanks Tony

It's frustrating as it limits the search capability.

It's interesting that the model and serial number is there for the (old) 7D
