A bit more abstract
« on: December 29, 2014, 03:48:08 pm »

I chose to put these here rather than Eric's Abstracts thread because they are recognizable landscapes with a bit of abstraction.
Comments and critique welcome.

I like them both a lot, Chuck.

So do we need a "Semi-abstract" thread? And maybe a "Semi-demi-abstract" thread? Or even a "three-quarters-abstract" thread?   :D

Thanks Eric.  I am a major fan of your Plum Island work so we must have some interests in common.

Well that would cover just about anything I would post but others may require more.  ;D  I suspect lumping is better than splitting so I guess we can stay as is and these would have been better posted in the Abstracts thread.

I have been reading a bit over the holiday and noted an observation that some photogs find abstraction of all kinds off-putting.  These two shots have a limited number of elements that actually draw you to focus on them and make you work to finding meaning.  The question for me is whether there is universal meaning or just a personal response.  As of late I have been putting more effort into this kind of work simply because I find it more interesting.

Thanks for the kind words, Chuck. Yes, I do think we have interests in common.

As for abstracts: I think good ones appeal to a smaller but perhaps more perceptive (or more imaginative) audience than do more conventional images. And I also think that the best abstracts are able to convey emotions better than most "here's what it looked like" photos.

Both very nice but if I had to vote it would go for #1
Reminds me of this image I shot several years back.
