Padded soft case for a 22" Beauty Dish?
« on: December 09, 2014, 10:00:15 pm »

If I needed a case for airline shipping I'd look at a Lightware, Tenba Aircase or an Aluminum Zarges case. instead I just need one to proect a beauty dish or two for storage and locations I can get to by driving. I am looking at this one http://mpex.com/lumopro-carrying-case-for-22-beauty-dish-and-grid.html but does anyone here have experience with it or have other suggestions?

No experience with the one in your link, but I do have the Kacey Enterprises bag for my Mola Demi + Grid. It's a nice bag and does the job well.

The space saving is minimal, soft-light reflectors aren't collapsible and the extra protection is worth a dish in itself. The Tenba air cases are heavy, I use the 'Car Case' -

Hi Ellis

Try your local music store drum cases may well be what your looking for I know elincrom makes a case for their small beauty dish but not the big one.

Thank for the suggestions. I have already looked at drum and cymbal cases but none quite fir the bill. The Tenba Car Case looks great but isn't in expensive.

I have already tried this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/22-inch-Reflector-Beauty-dish-location-bag-padded-carrying-case-Photo-studio-/371194650669?pt=US_Photography_Background_Material&hash=item566cece02d  BUT what they delivered didn't look at all like what was pictured in their ad among other things: no padding. and was slightly too small for my brand of Beauty Dishes.  When I contacted the sellers they immediately offered fulfilled a partial refund and told me to keep the case.

Late last night I ended up ordering the HOBD from Paul C. Buff, Inc.  http://www.paulcbuff.com/hobd-bag.php

you may notice a visual similarity between the PCBuff photo of the HOBD and the one I bought on eBay. When the HOBD arrives I'll shoot a pic of the two side by side.

I bought the Pual C Buff for my Profoto Beauty dish with grid. It's a perfect fit!
The quality is high for anything but air travel.

Bron BD soft case fits a Profoto dish nice and snuggly. Like any softcase will really only protect against scuffs vs. a harder case against malformation.

Connner:
Thanks: Is this the Broncolor bag you were referring to? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=770222&gclid=CKTAwZPxwMICFcvm7AodARQA3w&is=REG&Q=&A=details

and here isthe link for the Paul C. Buff HOBD: http://www.paulcbuff.com/hobd-bag.php which does note under the compatibility tag: "The HOBD-BAG is a soft-sided carrying bag for around-town travel. The bag is NOT to be used for airline travel or any other type or travel where the bag and its contents will not be handled with care." Unlike the Broncolor version, or the eBay version I already have, the HOBD seems to have some shaped foam protection but I understand it isnt a more rigid protective box ( see my earlier comments).

if the HOBD  (arriving today) doesn't work for me I'll try the Broncolor.

It is - I have one for both my white and silver Profoto dishes. With the grid on is a tight fit, but like it that way - keeps the fabric tight across the surface of the grid.

Tenba Car Case all the way, great value actually for what it does.

I have two of these, admittedly with Hensel dishes, but they are perfect for light protection.

+1 for the Paul Buff padded case. I don't use it for air travel but it's perfect for hauling my Profoto dish. It's well-made and also holds a large grid separately from the dish.

This one. Even though I had to pay 3x the US price here in the UK it was still a steal compared with the other options.

The Paul C. Buff HOBD arrived and it is working out just fine. My main use for it is not a beauty Dish but the similar sized Retro-Laser reflector, which is a great tool for when you want to throw a lot of light a long way or when used with a scrim asa diffuser when you want the diffused light to be  brighter than using a softbox.
