But why go overboard? It just needs to utilize the full dr of an average screen, and a wb correction so it doesn't look like shot through a car window. Not getting either of those two "correct" is just plain silly.

I guess it's not clear to me what WB you are referring to as correct. The first image is how it looked to me. The second image I used the wb dropper on some gray snow.
The dr of the scene was less than the camera, it was pretty low contrast and the histogram was all pretty close to the middle.
To fully use the dr of the gear or simulate that, I'd really have to pump up contrast which still looks wrong to my eyes. I did that in the second (which I agree is overboard).

Here's something different and I've removed the possibility of WB issues :D
It's actually the same location and the same day but in the morning instead of the evening. It was cold (-8F), foggy, and the river was steaming.
Same gear, 645D & FA 45-85.

If you don't mind me manipulating your image:
1. Original
2. Cleanup
3. Overboard

I'm not entirely clear about the dr of the gear. That depends on exposure.

The wb of snowscenes often does not depend on the snow btw. The trick in general according to my intuition is to find the wb that maximizes the colordifferences in the scene. (On my non-calibrated tablet nr 2 is a possibility to my eyes.) A more methodical approach might be:

1. Cranck up saturation to max
2. Adjust wb until you get the lowest overall saturation
3. Reduce saturation back to normal
4. Very important: let your eyes adapt after this edit.

Thanks, there is surely a happy medium in there somewhere. I'll try your approach when I have a chance and see how it compares.

I just returned from a print workshop with Charlie Cramer - I highly recommend attending one if possible.  Alternatively, there some excellent videos of his approach to printing on this site.  An image of the Virgin River in Zion taken on my return trip from the workshop.  645Z, 80-160mm

Crossing Branches of a Dogwood Tree.

I like this one. Really nice soft light and color plus great lines.

Did you shoot this image with the XF150?  Curious how it's performing for you.

Cam

This is from the IQ3 100. I only had the prototype to test for a couple of hours at the end on this shoot. The image I just posted was shot five days before testing.

I am hoping to have my 150 back before my next shoot in Hokkaido.

Do you have any specific questions? I would be pleased to help.

Thanks - no question.  I'm just curious to get feedback from the early users of the XF150.  I will get my 150 in early Jan - I hope.  BTW, really like the new image you posted.
