This reminds me of a mushroom walk I went on many years ago. It was led by a couple who were then current and past presidents of the Boston Mycological Society. As we encountered various fungi in the woods, I was chagrined to note how many times these experts disagreed on the identification of certain fungi. They did agree on one funny-looking, yellow fungus that they said were "Chantarelles", and they picked some and sautéed them for dinner that night.
Delicious.
And non-toxic.
But I will never try to pick a wild mushroom to eat. There are just too many look-alike pairs, one of which is poisonous.
