Condolences To Canada

 It seems that terrorism has once again reared it's ugly head in Ottawa. A so far un named soldier has died trying to protect people during this cowardly attack. Sincerest condolences to that valiant soldier's family and friends. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for all the wounded. And please let us NOT turn this thread into a debate on firearms laws.

Such is the world we live in. Sad. So many disillusioned, unfulfilled, brainwashed individuals who think violence is the answer. Among other news of the day: three girls (!), age 15, 16 and 17 (!!) ran away from homes in Colorado, traveling via Germany to Syria, to join... ISIS. Parents in shock. Where did we go wrong?

Not at all. According to the philosophy and guiding Koran, such murderous attacks are a small part of the smorgasbord of treatments and punishments to be handed out to the infidel.

My condolences to the families and to our Canadian cousins (literally, I'm sure, in many cases due to the British diaspora). However, as with the magnificent Sergeant-at-Arms, Canadians certainly know how to deal with these types.

My impression of it is that this was is not organized by an organization, rather an individual who have lost it...

Perhaps not directly controlled by an organization, but this is the second such attack in three days. On Monday, there was another attack near Montreal that ended also with a dead soldier. That time the killer used a car as a weapon. Both killers were identified as radicalized and had recently taken their passports away. There are over 80 such individuals in Canada.

Sorry, but this type of comment is not helpful. There are 1.6 billion followers of the Koran. If they were out to get you, I think you'd know about it.

I live in Ottawa but wasn't caught up in the lockdown downtown. The two murders, Monday's and yesterday's, were awful but we shouldn't oversell them as some kind of terrorist threat. The loser on Monday mowed down two soldiers with his car, scary enough for those involved but not a credible terrorist threat. And if the guy yesterday in Ottawa intended to go into the Parliament to shoot people, it was a pretty dumb move to announce himself by shooting some poor innocent on the street first, thereby guaranteeing an armed 911 response. What we know so far points to two unbalanced people who happened to latch onto the "cult du jour". A few decades ago, they might have joined Jim Jones. We should not downplay the very real danger of nuts with guns and screwed up belief systems, but this wasn't ISIL invading Canada either.

Tragic indeed and brings back memories of the soldier Lee Rigby who was murdered recently in London while off-duty.

However we do need to keep it in perspective.  On the same day 24 people were killed in the US by guns.  And 24 every other day of the year too (averaged from 8800 gun killings per year).
Let's not be terrorised by these so-called terrorists.
